Living costs for one year in Granada, Andalucia, Spain
« on: May 23, 2012, 06:45:07 PM »
I'll be moving to Granada, Andalucia early next year.  I will be bringing 12,000 Euros with me and hope to rent an apt in the 'Granada/ centre' (downtown or close to Cathederal) area of the city.

I've seen rents for around 350 eu - 450 eu per month for what I'm looking for.

So that leaves me aprox 650 - 550 eu per month to live on or around 150 eu a week for food / utilities and misc / socialising.

My plan is to paint full-time so I won't really be doing much all day other than going for walks, local meals and maybe a little vino and a pack of smokes every two days.  Am not going to be going to nightclubs as have grown out of that now, but would like to visit bars once or twice a week oncw I have met some locals to hang out with.

I've visited the ciuty before and from prices I saw of groceries and small meals etc, it seems I'd be able to live comfortably for a year on my 12k, not super frugal, or 'living large', but at a decent 'basic' level.

Any thoughts?

It sounds like you should be good.....however you may have to find a way to make some extra cash along the way. Maybe tutoring someone in english or selling a few paintings here and there.

It will last a while, but I would strongly suggest doing things for extra money along the way as that 12k will fade fast with your utility bills and stuff

Yeah if I could make 100eu extra a week with pt tutoring or something, that would be nice and is something I might consider looking out for, though I would only want an hour a day or a few hours once or twice per week.  Cheers.

You could live very reasonably on 7.000 euro. I did in Sevilla. I didn't make any super expensive purchases, went on reasonable trips, and still saw quite a few other places in Spain. Eating out is fairly cheap, especially once you get to know the place, and I recommend private English classes. You can make around 100/week from that without wearing yourself down.
