Here's a introduction to plants powerpoint I put together for my elementary school winter camp. Use it if you'd like, make it better if you feel like it.

There were 3 or 4 slides from a basic powerpoint I found somewhere on the internet, I forget the author. Thanks to whoever you were.

The last 3 slides are for an activity I'll be doing afterward. Delete them if you'd like. Use them to introduce a few vocabulary otherwise.

Simply put, the activity has every student with one printed out vegetable. They'll need to audibly describe it via color, taste, size, etc. They'll then make "my plant" booklets.

When I taught immersion classes I used these websites:

http://www.simplescience.net/ (mostly free, a little advanced, but they love the songs)

http://www.brainpop.com (get the week free trial, i just make up new emails every week ^^) They have all sorts of activities, try the brainpop jr on that site. It's much better for younger students...

This is a 2-3hr 'Science English' lesson.
Get ss to construct buildings out of cardboard and test them with
S-waves & P-waves. Teaches them about Earthquakes and accompanying vocab.

We had a science camp last year for Summer Vacation. Each day I showed them a ppt to learn the vocab and then we made something (ice cream, slime, mentos and coke volcano, planet book and egg drop.) Then they would do a worksheet that was about what they learned.

I posted the lesson plan with the materials you will need ppts and the worksheets.

Also, if you want a cheap reward get pennies. You can get 500 of them for 5 bucks and the kids go insane for foreign money. Whoever gets the most pennies by the end of camp gets a US dollar. Easy and cheap just make sure the kids realize that it's not candy. Had to fish far to many pennies out of kids mouths after they thought it was candy and popped it in!

Has anyone tried doing the Diet Coke and Mentos at one of their camps.

It's a little messy. An off-shoot would to be predict what would happen if other substances were dropped into Diet Coke. Set up other beakers filled with Diet Coke to test placed in a cake pan, etc. to catch the liquid. For journal essay, students explain the reason behind the Mentos acting the way it did. These are the lessons to a science-themed camp I have coming up. It is definitely hands-on and might require a little science knowledge, but overall is pretty self-explanatory.. A few ideas and lessons came from this thread-such as the egg drop and environment game, so THANKS posters! Keep in mind that it always helps if you add your own stuff and don't just read the PPT's! I planned it for Middle-School, there are a few words that will be tough, but...oh well.

I think each lesson should have a PPT, a handout, and a lesson plan

Another good idea is the "Drops of water on a penny" experiment. Students use a bulb pipette/eye dropper and count how many drops will fit on a dry penny vs on a penny that is coated with dishwashing soap and have them think about why there might be a difference.
