Eric Carle Camp
« on: December 23, 2010, 04:27:38 PM »
Greetings,

I will be using 4 Eric Carle stories for my coming camp. I suppose most folks have planned and organize their events, but Eric Carle is alwaya appearing in various useful lesson situations so hopefully at some point, a few others can find these materials useful. I haven't prepared EVERYTHING yet, but will share what I have as it is prepared and ready to go beginning w/ Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you see? A short introductory lesson and name game.

Enjoy!

P.S. The PPT was previously created on this site by a talented teacher to whom I am eternally grateful, I cut out quite a few slides as I only wanted to story, but was grateful to find a well designed PPT -thanks Waygookin's!

oh thank you so much.  I taught adults last year and just started teaching children, so the grade 5 and 6 are OK but to know what to do with Grade 3 is a little tricky for me.  On top of that my KT's don't allow me to get involved much so when I do have the chance I want to come up with stuff that is really good.  This is really good.  Thank you.  Do you have anything else that would suit Grade 3.

Just finished up everything for 'From Head to Toe'

Lesson focus: Body parts, actions, some more animals, etc.

I owe much thanks and gratitude once again to various Waygook-contributers otherwise these PPTs would be lame...or non-existent, so thanks Waygook-ins, I am forever and always grateful to you!

Final Installment of my Eric Carle camp - perhaps...

Maybe I'll do a little "post-camp" brief of how it played out in real life...

Thanks as always to those who contributed before me and made it easier for me to complete my tasks...

Hey;

Thanks so much for posting this material.  I have been using the material with grade 2 and 3's (elementary) for my after school program.  I am trying to think of a new game to play with "The Mixed Up Chameleon."  So far we have done pictionary which they loved.  But can anyone suggest another game?

Thanks so much!

I've been doing quite a bit of stuff with eric carle.  so i thought I would post the material I have made here.  i have been using his book with my afterschool kids and they really like it.  So far I have read:  Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? Today is Monday, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and Draw Me a Star with my class.

I just have a vocab PPT for Today is Monday.
I made a vocabulary matching worksheet for Brown Bear.
For the Hungry Caterpillar I made a write and draw sequencing worksheet.
For draw me a star, it is a mini book with fill in the blanks and drawing.

I hope some of this information is useful.

Here's an edited version of The Mixed-Up Chameleon I made for a friend's open class. She made it shorter and simplified the words, so it has a new voice over as well.

Click the link to my FB page for links to the video, English subtitles, and Korean+English subtitles, as well as other videos I've made. Enjoy!

My students love Eric Carle stories.
Another fun thing is to make gestures for different parts of the story.  From Head to Toe comes with gestures built in, but for other stories ie. have the students make a certain gesture for "crawl," or "caterpillar" or "eat."  I start with modeling for them, doing it slowly with the students, mixing up the vocab words in sentences and seeing if they can make the right gestures, and in the end, having groups "perform" the story while I read it.  Works great especially for students with low-level reading.

I created a workbook from stuff I gathered on here (I think some of it is melissah's  ;D ) and other places. I created about half of it myself. I hope someone can use it. It says 3rd and 4th grade but really it's about the level of the students.

My powerpoint contains some tracing fonts that won't look right if you don't have that font, so I am adding the PDF so you can print from that if you need those pages.

EDIT: added the upper level book.

I just finished up a 2 week Eric Carle camp with my elementary students and everything went really well. I borrowed quite a few things from this thread, modified a few things for my students' level, and added a bit of my own stuff.

I taught 3 books: 'Today is Monday', 'From Head to Toe' and 'The Mixed-up Chameleon'. For 'Monday', I focused on themes of days of the week and animals. 'Head' was focused on teaching body parts and animals, and 'Chameleon' was all about colors. In total, I taught 6 different lesson, each one lasting 40 minutes. My students were Grades 1-4. I modified a few activities for the younger ones, and have two different worksheet sets.

I've included my basic lesson plan and all ppts. and worksheets. Feel free to message me if you have other questions. Once again, I owe the bulk of this material to other Waygookers, and all credit goes to them for getting me started.
