How do I get my laptop to automatically recognize multiple IPs?
Canonite:
Hi guys...so here's the deal...I plug in (ie: don't use wireless) at both my school and my home. I take my laptop to school every day, and the laptop doesn't auto-recognize the IPs. (Ie: it's not just plug in and go).
At school, I have to go into my settings and type in the IP/DNS etc numbers...at home, it's a little easier, I just open up the connections menu and tell it to auto find the IP and it does.
It's not a HUGE deal, but it's still kind of annoying going through this a couple of times a day, every day. Is there any way I can get my computer to remember these two IPs, so that I can simply plug in the LAN and get going, without having to go through the song and dance?
Thanks.
GoCyclones:
Just create two connectons with different settings and enable or disable one and the other at different locations.

Thanks guys, I'll give those a shot!
kpfogey:
if you use windows, additional software isn't necessary...
if you edit the ip4 settings of your ethernet connection, you can use dhcp (Obtain an IP address automatically option) for your home and if you click the alternate configuration tab, you can manually input a static ip address for your work...
