Canadian Connections (Recruiter)
Summer:
I've searched through this site but I didn't quite see what I was looking for.
I'm using Canadian Connections as one of my recruiters right now and they want me to send all of my documents to them by the end of this month.
Of course, I'm worried about this because they can't guarantee me a job. They said that they would mail my documents back if they can't find me a position but it would be a big waste of time and money (sending it to them in Toronto, having them send it back, and then I have to send the documents to Korea if I get a job through another recruiter).
I used google to look through every thread on this site and a lot of other threads in Dave's that mentions Canadian Connections and most of them seem to be positive, but I am still really hesitant on sending them all my documents before I secure a job.
I am using other recruiters right now but I am having a very up-and-down experience with most of them. Canadian Connections seems to be the most professional out of all the ones I'm using right now, so I don't want to drop them as a recruiter either.
I was wondering if sending them all my documents before securing a job is a new thing (I haven't seen it mentioned by anyone in my search results) and if anyone has ever actually gotten their documents back from them when they weren't able to secure a job.
skjosh:
That's weird. I didn't use CanCox, but my recruiter did not request all my documents till I had already secured a job. I'm not sure I would like sending my documents (some of which I waited for for two months!) overseas just on the chance that my recruiter could find me a job. And you're right about it costing a lot. My boyfriend and I mailed our documents together. We had to use express shipping because we were on a tight deadline and it cost us around $100 :(
hilarity ensues:
You can definitely trust them... I'm not sure what you said to them exactly, but I didn't have any problems. I've had a few jobs in Korea and they were by far the best recruiters I've used, and I would recommend them to anyone.
I'm not completely sure why they're asking for documents before securing a job for you. Did you ask for a specific location? Or a certain timeframe?
Summer:
I did not ask for a specific location, but I did request to be in a specific province. I did not ask for a specific time either, I'd just like to arrive before September.
I've contacted many other recruiters and they are the only ones who asked to get my stuff ahead of time... They said that they have to check it over before sending it to Korea and that's why they want the documents ahead of time (their office is in Toronto, Canada).
I think this is a new thing because, as I mentioned in my original post, I have never seen anyone mention this before.
I do trust that they will give me my documents back but I'm still worried because this would cost me time and money if they fail to get me a job.
Has anyone ever gone through Canadian Connections and failed to get a job due to no fault of your own? I'd like to get a range of their success rate. It seems to be good because all of the stuff I've read in the forums seem positive, but I don't want to be the one person to get screwed over by them.
hilarity ensues:
If you're asking for Gyeonggi before September, then that's probably why-- before September isn't such a huge timeframe.
They've also been having problems with some of their teachers lately-- I recently got an incredible group e-mail that described some sort of topless beach party or something where some foreigners spent the whole night keeping the locals awake with loud music and then left garbage all over the place-- as a result, some parents complained and now there aren't as many positions available in certain places.
It wouldn't surprise me if they're trying to tighten their screening process as well…
