Reason for Vacation
« on: December 28, 2010, 03:18:48 PM »
My Co-teacher is saying he needs to fill out a form for my vacation, understandable.  On the form it ask for a reason and where I am going on the vacation.  Why would it ask for a reason? Do I just say for for my reason?

Just put "for leisure purposes" or something dry and boring like that. Why does it ask? Well, it's Korea...they ask you everything!

My form also says "reason".. it's because we use the same form for other types of leave, so I'd usually write: Early leave (at type of leave) and then "Bank" for reason (if i take early leave to do banking, obviously).. so for vacation i wrote "vacation" for type of leave, and "winter vacation" for reason.  :) no questions asked.it is afterall the reason.. cause it's your damn winter vacation.. haha! :)

The form I had to fill out had the same thing. They want to know where you're going and why. All I can say is yes, it's Korea. They apparently want to know these things. For my reason I just put "to visit family". I don't think it really matters why, I guess if you're taking sick leave or maternity leave or something that's a different story.

I had one of those a few weeks ago. I saw a glimpse of the form and it had the dates and where I was going. My co had filled it all out and I had to sign it. Of course she didn't mention what it was for so I had to ask what it was before I did.

Yes mine asked what days (including weekends and Lunar New Year) I would be away and where I was going.  So not unusual.  I haven't been asked for an itinerary though.

My school had me fill out the forms too. They've also asked that I write a report on my vacation... I kinda feel like I'm the student here  ::) But that's why there's wikipedia, right? Add a few lines about what I did, a few pictures, and done. Still a PITA.

i know it's a nuisance....but the korean teachers have to fill in a form and tell the vp where they are going also.  they actually have to be "allowed" to leave the country.  this is because they are public servants.  i'm told it's just a formality and that the vp lets teachers go....but they do have the power to say no.

In all honesty I'd be pretty pissed if they asked for an itinerary!!  They asked me, but I thought the head teacher was just making conversation... So this is how I'd answer next time too, cause it worked well (even though i had no idea what for)... She asked: "Where you go vacation?"  and I just said: "Oh, uhmmmm Busan, Seoul, Daegu, haha everywhere!"  I had no other questions, so if that's why she asked it worked.

under reason, I just put "vacation" that is what it is, you ask a stupid question you get a stupid answer.

Haha. I wrote that first then was told to put a better explanation.  So I was curious what others had put. I ended up putting vacation for fun free time.

Some things are just so pointless.

Like twitch said, Koreans have to get permission to leave the country.  I've gone to Japan a few times now and on the 3rd trip the principal told me not to go to Japan anymore because of the bad history with Korea :)  Pretty amazing.
