Osaka versus Tokyo?
(1/1)
janerzzzz:
I'm going to Japan next month, and I've heard conflicting things abut Tokyo and Osaka. Which one do you suggest for the real Japan experience?
vw08:
I went to Osaka for a few days with a side overnight trip to Kyoto earlier this month and had a great time. The cities are a short train ride apart, so it is possible to get a taste of both the modern and traditional sides of Japan. Osaka is also supposed to be a bit more laid back and less expensive than Tokyo. There are plenty of things to do, see, eat and buy. Kyoto is very well known for its temples and shrines.

No matter where you choose, you will have a great trip!

Really depends on what you like. I felt you get kind of a better feeling for traditional Japan down in Osaka/Kyoto, but for many Tokyo is more fun as there's more active night life, busier, big buildings lotsa lights and whatnot. If you're super nerdy, Tokyo is quite fun for Akihbara.
I personally liked Kyoto/Osaka much more though. Lots of beautiful scenery and traditional buildings and whatnot.

Yeah I am wondering about this too... Although I think I'm just gonna end up going to Tokyo. I kind of think I'll get the real experience anywhere in Japan, and I just more or less want to compare Korea and Japan. Living in Seoul for all these years makes me feel going to Tokyo is the only way to do that.
