How long can you stay in the same school?
« on: January 18, 2011, 04:55:27 PM »
Does anyone know if there is a time period on how long you can stay in the same school? Keep re-contracting!

In my first school i heard that it was 2 years then we had to change! But i have known some teachers who have stayed longer- this was in a special high school!- so i guess public/private (they do their own hiring and firing)

If you have any ideas or have heard, let me know!

Maybe there is no rule for the natives then! It doesn't say in the contract! so i guess it's upto the school!

I guess it depends on the school. I am now on my 3rd year with my school. Nothing special about my school; just your  average boys middle school here in Pohang.

Until your salary gets too expensive!

This is true, if your school likes you... they can renew you until you die.

But let's not lie... they like money more than they like you, so when your salary gets too expensive they will want to bring in new blood... because it's cheaper!

At that point, you can just leave, or you can negotiate with them. A "salary freeze" or something. Take a small paycut, whatever it takes. If they like you, they will happily negotiate. It's usually about money.

This is my 3rd year at my school. I still have 7 more months on my current contract and my principal told my co-teacher that as long as he is there, he would like for me to stay!!!!!!

A friend of mine was at his school for 8 years until they couldn't afford him anymore. They just transferred him to another school. It really does depend on the budget of your school.
