Average rent costs (Jungno-gu/Jong-gu Seoul)
« on: February 07, 2011, 11:36:58 AM »
I'm hoping to live in Jungno-gu/Jong-gu Seoul area, but suppose I may have to commute if this area is very expensive.  How much do you pay monthly and how much was your key money around here?  I'm looking for nothing fancy--just a one room apartment (and I guess almost all apartments are unfurnished...?).

I don't pay for the rent myself as it is covered by my school but I heard that many landlords require that you pay the deposit which is like 100 000 USD (my co-teachers told me) and leave the amount with the landlord for one year. The interest goes to them and would serve as your rent payment.

If that's true, it would make things very difficult for tenants without that deposit amount. I asked my co-teachers, what if you don't have that much to put down? They told me that in that case, you could hardly get an apartment or you have to really lower your standard...

Good luck find a reasonably priced place for yourself!
