Re: Middle School English Books (Ji Hak Sa) Grade 2 L2
« Reply #180 on: April 08, 2011, 12:15:41 pm »
Hi, thanks for all the hard work to everybody on this site! This is my first time teaching middle school so still getting used to the students and the teaching style, but here is a PPT about hobbies for Grade 2.  I have low level students and they seem to enjoy these kind of games.

The game is describing the slide:  this game has worked best when boys and girls were competing with each other:  one student from each group sits with their backs to the screen while the others had to explain what was on the screen.  The student needs to say I am interested in____ or I enjoy ___ whatever was on the screen.  The first student to say this gets 5 points, if the others say it they get 3 points.

Hope someone finds it useful  :)

Hi Guys,

I know most of you will probably be past the Grade 3, Lesson 2, but I'll just share what I did last week. Very simple idea but worked well. (I've been given the freedom to work from the textbook if I want.) Sorry, I don't have a lesson plan.

Taking the key phrase "I'd like to introduce you to my friend ....."  I said to the students I needed help and they were going to teach ME today. "I want to learn more about some famous Koreans." I paired up the students. Each pair was given a picture of a famous Korean actor, singer, business man.

They then had to draft an introduction speech telling me, which included, who the person in the picture was, where they're from, what they did  and anymore information they knew. They then had to do a good copy. This will be displayed in the classroom. We ran out of time but next class the students will present or introduce their person to the class.

It worked well and they all got their buzz out of all the pictures floating around the room of famous koreans. Great eye candy too   ;)

This is a powerpoint that I used for Lesson 3 Piggy Banks for Grade 3.
I definitely used someone else's powerpoint although I cannot remember who, but I added a pronunciation section for the Function file part in the chapter.

The kids really had fun doing the tongue twisters, and it's a good opportunity for you to get some brownie points with the kids if you can say them fast!

I used this in two of my classes; it definitely kept the students' attention.  One of my co-teachers loved it so much she asked me to give her a copy of it.  The other co-teacher thought it was good but wants me to work out of the textbook more, although she mentioned that her class has never paid so much attention before.

Anyone got any ideas for Grade 2 Lesson 3 - The 'I'm going...Can you go to...I'm looking forward to" part of the book? (Textbook exercises 40B, 41B, 41C & 42B, 43A)

I'm struggling a wee bit this week - thinking of having students in pairs plan a tour or something similar for their partner...

Just finished a Grade 3 'Who's Calling?' lesson with my coma patient Monday morning class and they all took part and went away smiling!  The 'i-phones' - made from cardboard boxes and googled i-phone pictures helped.  It's simple, but it worked.

Alikaz - I'm struggling with that Grade 2 lesson too.  I have to teach it tomorrow pm so I'll post it before then, assuming I'm not right up to the wall for finishing it or that you don't get inspired and  post something for me to copy before then.

Haven't written up a plan yet, but think I'm going to do something along these lines:
Work through  activity 41B & 42B. Then do a production exercise where I show various pictures (like travelling to the moon, extreme sports etc. things that they will enjoy) that the students pick from and then ask their partner if they're interested and if they would like to go with them. Will have them practice and share with the class. Can't think of a game which works in well with this, but my last class with awesome pictures was a success so hopefully this will please them haha

Just finished with my lesson for next week on MONEY MONEY MONEY!  I know it has nothingggg to do with the dialogue, but if you're looking for something just related to the chapter, here ya go!  Enjoy!

Sorry for those non-American waygooks out there... as part of this is geared towards American money... its the culture I know best.

Hey alexandrateacher, you happen to have that mr bean video? I was thinking of using that part of the lesson.

Found this Presentation on Ex Sport thought it might help to tailor the class too i am planning on doing a similar sort of Thing least give you some ideas of sports to use.

Nice thanks for that Hayley. If anyone wants a bizarre extreme sports video to show their kids this one could be good. I'm gonna give it a whirl, hopefully they like it!

Midterms coming up for my kids and for me, the first time I have to give speaking tests. However, this week will be spent on review. I've taken bomb game templates and put in questions from the speaking and file function parts of the three lessons.

How do you guys typically review for tests?

Inspired by dsob's "What will you be doing in 15 years?" and cobbled with a few slides from another ppt from one of the other book. XD Pretty much covers page 42B part for speaking and the latter two sections of the function file

Grade 2, Lesson 3 (speaking part B and half of function file)
I just talked about what you say when you're late to meeting friends or going to class. Then who do you apologize to. Difference between 5 and 30 minutes late.

I did this class yesterday. The lesson wasn't well prepared so I'll touch it up before I upload anything but one speaking practice activity went well.
I asked everyone to stand on their chairs. They had to say a "I'm looking forward to ......."  e.g. "I'm looking forward to lunch."
"I'm looking forward to exams being over." sentence. One by one we went through the class and students were asked to put up their hands up when they were ready to say their sentence. They were all eager not to be one of the last few standing so we got through the class quickly.  I do have classes of about 18 so this may not be possible for larger classes.

Cheers for that! I have now stolen the much more polished slides for my presentation. Haven't actually taught this class yet because of a lot of cancellations so now it is looking sharp! I'm looking forward to teaching it :p

Thanks everyone for your combined efforts - this is my version of Grade 2 Lesson 6 - I'm looking forward to....  It's just a variation on others already posted.  No lesson plan yet but it should be self explanatory.

I'll be getting them to complete the worksheets then choose student 'A' using the magic chopsticks, that student chooses student 'B;, they read out parts A and B then 'B' chooses a new partner and they read it again - parts B and A.  Prize for the person who draws the pink stick as incentive.  Wish me luck - my Grade 2 are horrible this year.

Someone asked what is used for review lessons.  I do bomb games but they get old quickly.  Sentence Stretching and Sentence Reduction is also good.  I'll be preparing mine later this week and will post asap.

Have attached my PPT and lesson plan for Grade 2 Lesson 3B - I'm going to/I'm looking forward to.

There's a distinct NZ theme which won't be relevant for a lot of you, but feel free to teach 'Sweet As' if you want haha.

I also made a short & veeery simple video with my girlfriend for the listening section. I was bored of the bad acting and animations so this video should hopefully be a welcome reprieve, it uses pretty much the same script though. If you want me to email the video let me know.

Thanks to jauntwithjo for a few of the slides!

Grade 1 Lesson 3 - Introductions & Apologies attached

The kids seem to love having Lee Myung Bak as their father, they go nuts over it!

Theres a bit of a random NZ phrase at the front of the lesson, in case you want to pick up any Kiwi expressions!

Great work guys - this group continues to help me a lot. I love it when I post my lessons and someone polishes it up and makes my presentations better - my coteachers are always shocked when suddenly all the fonts are changed and new slides are added. Anyway, here is my grade 2 review Simpsons bomb game. A lot of these questions will be relevant to everyone but some definitely wont so please do change them.

Oh and a big thanks to Rufus who posted up the bomb template in the first place - you are a true waygook legend!
