Hi all!  Attached is my Grade 2, Lesson 1B plan!  I spend 2 weeks on each lesson; first week - part A and second week - part B!  The lesson was a huge success with the students and the teachers.  I've taken parts of lessons on waygook and adapted to the lesson below

Note:  The PPT below has been modified for my low level students next week.  I didn't play Kaboom with my high level.  Instead, we did a speed competition with the conversations on the worksheet.  The students loved it.  I downloaded a stop watch.  Their prize: chocolate pies (they crave those things)!!

Enjoy!

Amber, great lesson, I love the way you set it up. How much do you use the book in your lesson?

So, I absolutely hate using the CD for this book, but have to do listening and speaking warm up activities for the class. Anyone interested in making short videos with the dialogues for our classes? I think the students would be more interested seeing real people and it could be fun making them. I'm in Busan, so let me know if you're up for doing some movie magic.

Amber, this is great!  I plan on using this for my C level students next week.

Now I have a quick question about the Kaboom game (never having played this game before I'm intrigued).  Maybe I'm just groggy because its 9am on a Friday, but for Kaboom on the second slide you say "Read the paper and finish the sentence".  Having not played before, would you mind also attaching this paper??  Or if there's just something I'm missing, would you mind explaining?  Thank you!!

Also, I'm attaching my powerpoint lesson for this week and the one I'll be using for my A/B levels next week.  Since there is SUCH a divide between my A, B, and C levels I really have to separate and change the way I teach for each level.

@iantrich - I did a lesson in which I got two teachers from other schools to read a joke for me.  They recorded it on their MP3 and emailed it to me.  They had a riot doing it, I had a laugh listening to it and the kids were mesmerised as they always are by the non-text book voice recordings.

I'd certainly be up for making our own video and audio recordings.  Not sure how as I'm miles from anywhere but I'm sure it could be done.

Most would have to be person, I would think, but recording our screens as we do a skype call would be pretty cool as well. Quick cuts for the different parts, easy. I'll start going through my scripts and seeing what is usable. I'm only going to do listening/speaking dialogues A/B. None of the activities, since they are lame and I can make better ones that the kids like.

I'm just looking forward to my transition to those parts to be smoother, rather than switching to itunes for the track, switching back to my slides for the answers and next question, then back to itunes and then back to my slides. Waste valuable time, and gives them enough time to get bored and start goofing off, only takes about 5 seconds for that to happen, haha.

Amber - fantastic power point. I was looking at it this morning and edited some of my previous work into it and just used it in a class. It worked really well. I didnt get them to play the game cos my coteacher for that class is a bit of a control freak / hard ass so I just used one of my previous worksheets. I noticed a couple of small errors, you missed the odd question mark on the 'why dont you...?' and 'how about...?' section. Thanks a lot Amber for this!

Ian, as your near and queer (ha!), I would be up for making some videos or at least having a go at some. I seem to just become a giggling wreck though whenever I try to video myself but we can see how it goes....

Are we doing the videos naked Ian?

I'm pretty sure that's breaking a few laws AND not any of the fun ones...

@Ian:  I have to use the books to set-up my lesson but I deviate from it often but still using the same key words from the book.  My co-teachers are okay with that.

@Alexandra:  I don't have the paper strips for Grade 2 b/c I'll be playing Kaboom with them next week.  This week I just did a competition - which pair of students could read the conversation (1,2,3 - I choose, surprise) the fastest but being the most clear.  It worked really, really well.  The students went nuts!  But, I will attach the Kaboom strips I will be using for Grade 1 next week.

Note:  the kaboom strips include: complete the sentence, read the sentence (I have students practice sounds as well) and then tell me what sound you hear, and spell the word (I will read a word that practices the sound we used in class and the student has to spell the word on the board).  Hope this is helpful!

@dsob: Opps!  Thank you for your help!  I actually corrected the errors earlier this week but saved on my USB!

Glad you enjoyed!

So this basically follows the book. Ideally each lesson would take at least 2 45 minute classes. Vocabulary, Sounds, Reading, and Comprehension are all sections. There is a BAAM Game at the end.   Enjoy.

you may wanna proofread these.  grade 1 particularly.

Maybe this should be its own thread (or maybe it already is) but I've been looking for songs to use for the "sounds" section in each chapter. I plan to play the song in class and hand out the lyrics. The kids would then listen to the song and circle/underline examples of the sounds I'm teaching, perhaps with a prize for the student who finds the most examples of the sounds. As of now I have "With a Little Help from My Friends" (Beatles) for the "L" sound/silent "L" box on pg. 13 of the grade 2 book, as well as "Walk the Line" (Johnny Cash) for the "i" sound on pg. 27 of the grade 1 book. I'll continue searching and posting good songs and if you think this is a good idea I hope you'll respond with other songs. Thanks!

Grade 3 lesson 2 - what are friends for?

I've made a battleships game for the students to play. They create a timetable then have to reproduce their partners timetable in order to beat their partner. Hope you like it! This lesson is just for the speaking part of the book

Simpson's Bomb Game after school-related vocabulary. Grade 1, Unit 2.

I wasn't sure where to take the 1st graders this time. I know they get vocab crammed down their throat by Korean teachers, but I'm noticing that with older grades when I say simple school words like "principal" or "science," some class members look at me with those frightened doe eyes, so I decided to take advantage of the topic and suggested vocab (green book).

I've only done this with one class, but they LOVED it. I start the class by letting them know that, while there is a lot of vocab we're going through, they need to pay attention because there is a really fun Simpsons game at the end. I've been waiting to use the Simpsons Bomb Game template posted by another member on here. The animation is great, and it provided a lot of laughs. We had to stop a few times to get the kids to quiet their cheering and laughter. There were a few subjects (like art) that I intentionally didn't put in the vocabulary PowerPoint or worksheet, but at least one student in each group got it. Not that tough.

Hi everyone.

I've now updated all my work - the first 3 lessons for Grades 1, 2 and 3 including lesson plans, ppts and where used, worksheets.  I've also updated Schemes of Work for each year, using the lesson objectives from the box on the first page of each chapter of the book (up to Chapter 6) and added a vocabulary sheet taken from the first page of each chapter of the Activities book.  It might be useful for copy/pasting or reference when making review quizzes etc.

I've put everything on a wiki site http://namhaemiddleschool.wikispaces.com/ just so that I can keep it all in order and accessible.  If anyone has any problems with this let me know and I'll upload stuff direct to Waygook.  It's all saved in PPT 2003 for accessibility.
