I used books 1 and 2 last year (and this year) and we just started the 3d year.  They're not bad books.  There are some good activities in them.

Does anyone here use the following "Middle School English"?
First graders: Author is Mark Brown (2009) - the front cover is the a boy hoping over a bar
Second graders: Author is William Roszell (2009) - the front cover shows 1 white girl and boy, 1 asian and 1 black students smiling
3rd graders: unknown author - the cover shows 5 sports chics cheering themselves on, the same one grnidgirl described.

Just received the new 3rd grade book, so happy the old one was very boring and the lessons very limited, so now my 1st lesson for 3rd grade is also “The Magic of 10,000 hours”, what are you planning for this lesson?

i use this series of books as well. will post my lessons as i work through them. last year i only used the 2nd year book, and i wasn't a huge fan of it. however the 1st year text looks much better. they are giving me the teacher's book this year as well, so that should help matters.

Yup, my school still uses this series for Grade 1 and 2. I'm not a fan. It's too unfocused, and each grade's book is almost the same subjects and difficulty.
Last year, I just picked a theme that seemed related to the speaking section and went from there. I just used the books for reading practice.

While I'm not teaching from these directly, I am going to be drawing material from these texts for levels 1-3 this year for my main classes after I go over basic rules and protocol the first three weeks or so.  I would be happy to post my materials for the lessons in question when I have them so that people can use them if these are, indeed,  your text books.

Thanks very much for this. It looks good, and I really like the guessing game.

OK, so for the first lesson in the MG2 book, it appears that the speaking/listening focus is on introductions and apologizing?  Can I get a consensus on this?

Also, out of curiosity, how do you feel about the use of "never mind" in this lesson?  I thought it came off as a little catty, and if someone said that to me after I apologized I might be a little offended.  Thoughts?

I didn't have to use the book last year, but now they've gotten rid of one English class a week so I've been told to do my best to "incorporate" the text.

My thought exactly, I was thinking to teach them the phrase but also to mention that it's very informal and maybe impolite to an extent. I also gathered from the study points that the lesson in mostly based on apologizing and introducing and then also to accept an apology.

I would suggest alternative word for never mind maybe:
I forgive you.
Apology accepted.
Can't really think of more right now, my mind is up ducted by the evil Korean flu 

I will upload my lessons as soon as I am done with them, hopefully if the flu treats me well which I doubt it might still be this week.

I have these books too!  Can't stop giggling at the chapter heading "I'm Unique Because My Hearing is Bad."  Wonder why they go out of their way to avoid using the word "deaf."  Is there a bad word that sounds like that in Korean?

I think the toughest thing for me about these books is trying to pinpoint exactly what the book is trying to teach in each lesson.

From my understand, here are the "targets" of the first lesson for each grade:

MG1 - Introducing oneself, what one is and likes

MG2 - Introductions of self and others, giving and accepting apologies

MG3 - "I'm looking forward to..." (future & lengths of time), "I'm interested in..." (expressing how you like things?)

Does this make sense to anyone else?
