This is a link to the video I'm going to use with my Grade 1 lesson 1 classes to introduce handshakes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz2jieBg6H8

I thought it was pretty funny but then maybe I've just been cooped up in school too long today!  :)

This is my worksheet and lesson for Middle School 3 - Lesson 1.

The worksheet and powerpoint tie into my first week worksheet and introduction.  I've added the first week worskheet to get an idea of where the lesson one power point begins.  Cheers!  I'm off to teach this lesson now :)

Edit:  I'm noticing people aren't downloading all 3.  The PPT is only marginally useful without the Lesson 1 doc with it.  That's the worksheet for that lesson.

Grade 3 Lesson 1, The magic of 10,000 hours

This lesson is split into TWO parts!

I usually end the lesson at slide 18 on day one. I ask to role play each section of page 13 (first me and my co-teacher role play to demonstrate and then I ask my students to make their own dialog)

I wrap up class with having them fill out the blank spot on page 12 with an interest club of their choice. I then tell them before I leave class that in groups of 4-6 I will ask them to make a club poster and they will present it to the class next time. (my class already has previously assigned groups so you may need to organize groups prior to starting the lesson)

Class Two: We quickly go through the advertisement pictures and videos (the stars on slide 22 are youtube hyperlinks to some funny commercials, I usually pick two) and then I let them get right down to making their posters. I then ask each group to come up and present their posters together.

Ordering food at the Krusty Burger (fast food restaurant)

I start the lesson by giving out the worksheet, because I will have the kids fill in the blanks throughout the lesson.
We begin by going over the vocabulary in the chart on slide 2. Have the students fill in the chart in the worksheet.

After we practice saying these expressions, I do the dictation and have them listen to my answers. Print out the worksheet and make your own answers to the conversation at the bottom of the page.

Next I have created a few senarios for my students using characters from the simpsons. I start with the cashier. The second senario is myself as a simpson character. You can use this slide, delete this slide, or make your own character here: http://www.simpsonsmovie.com/main.html and add it to your powerpoint. My kids loved that I made my own character.
To save you can register with the site (free) or just print screen and crop down to the character.

The senarios are dialogues with missing parts to them and I get my kids to guess what the characters are saying based on the information I give to the students for each character. For example, I tell my students in my slide about myself that I want to buy 5 pizza's. So on the senario slide, I ask my kids "do you remember what I wanted to order?" for lower level I usually give them an option such as: "5 pizza's or 40 hamburgers?" Then I let my students role play the dialogue so they can practice saying each senario in pairs.

All the vocabulary is based on Grade two chapter 2,  Desserts of the World,  Real-life Scene. page 30

Grade 3 Lesson 1 -Suggestions and Expectations Practice

Here's a very brief powerpoint with some simple sample dialogues using Kpop stars and actors. It practices "Let's" "Why don't you" and "How about" as well as "I'm looking forward to it" and "I'd love to".

This is only a small part of my lesson, but after doing some of the Listening from the book and elicitation, the students will be drilled in one of these three dialogues.

This is my lesson for grade 2, chapter 2; desserts of the world. The students are generally quite high level, so we run through the recommended dialogue in the book (and all the associated vocab-meal, waiter, waitress, drinks, soup, fast food, etc) quite quickly when we go through the powerpoint. Thank you to the waygookin who came up with "Obama goes to Wendy's"! It generally gets a smile out of the kids.

Thank you, also, to EFL4U for the fabulous worksheet, "the maitre'd". The lessons on Kurt's site are nothing short of spectacular! I recommend signing up for his weekly email. Download the worksheet here; http://www.efl4u.com/samplelesson

I really like the Maitre'd worksheet. I think it is lots of fun. I have just been making a list on the board, as a starting point for the students. Insects, seafood, body parts, spices (this one they struggle with), adjectives, etc. This takes a while, but we have lots of fun doing it. Students then fill in their dialogues with their partners and eventually do the dialogues. If there is time, I get a few of the students to share their dialogues at the end (this never goes down well).

I had planned to get students to write their own dialogues at the end of the lesson, but so far there has never been time.

This is my third grade lesson for the week, chapter 1, The Magic of 10 000 Hours. I thought I'd share, because it is going particularly well, as my lessons go. I have been told to do two weeks of lessons for each chapter... this one was a bit of a stretch! Last week, the classes made posters for an interest. I had planned to get them to write dialogues, but that didn't happen.

We do a quick review of the target phrases from last week. Then as a class we write a dialogue, I do it on the board, taking suggestions from students. I have been trying to do this in about 10 minutes.

The better part of the lesson is the next bit. First we speak about the people on slide 4, why they are famous etc. Then we discuss the kinds of people who are famous- politicians, humanitarians, actors, athletes, scientists, inventors, infamous people, models etc. I make a list on the board as we go. Next we discuss the famous people in the slides and decide which categories they fit into. I have been really surprised because, on the whole, students have really enjoyed this.  Thanks to londone7 for the idea.

At the end, we play a game where they each write a name on a post-it. They stick it on someone's back and have to ask yes/no questions to figure out who they are. Usually there are about 5 minutes over, so I think of someone and get them to guess, asking yes/no questions. I usually get the co-teacher involved too, they have actually enjoyed it the most!

bubblieri , those are more great examples of famous couples, technically there is no Mama Smurf . . at least not that I remember. Also, I didn't realize the Smurfs were so popular in Korea.

Review ppt and activities for Grade 2, lesson 1.

I haven't tried this out yet, but it's pretty straightforward. I want to try and get the students to not use their books so have explained the activities simply (I hope!). It's a simple review of the communication spotlight, then an introducing activity (based on activities A & C) - I laminated the cards double sided - so you can have either a group of 3 or 4, teh I'm going to go camping game, and what were you doing last night. There's also a 'why do I have a ____ in my bag' activity if time allows.

sonya,
did this with 2 of my 3 1st graders and one of the classes wanted to do it again :) they really liked it and it was easy enough for my co-teacher and i to do...as for the actual english part, i knew most of them wouldn't use the english. so to complete the activity, they had to come up to either my co-teacher or i and introduce themselves before they could sit down. some of them still didn't know the phrases :p that's okay~ a little mayhem yes, but still a good activity :)

sprpingdaze7 hahah yes clearly i've never watched the smurfs :D i realized later that there isn't a mama smurf but since my students know the smurfs and like 'em, i just included it anyways :D

Grade 2 lesson 3. A Caterpillar in the Cave. I didn't think much of this lesson, but as my coteacher told me she thought it was "very excellent," (which is something she has never said before) I thought I'd share. Thanks to kjoy for the activity idea.
