Here is a supplementary class for Gr. 1. How is your school life.
In this lesson they learn about American/Canadian Middle schools.

1- Watch the video and answer questions in groups of 2-4.

2.Read the story in groups of 4 (1 paragraph per person).
Students must highlight what is the same as them in pink, highlight what is different from them in yellow.

Midterm Review, Year 1
(Ch 1~3) low/multi level

I've edited the infamous Halloween game for  this review! I fixed some of the glitches that the original had, so let me know if some of the slides/timings don't work...
To play, I split my class into three teams. Each team sends up one students to choose where they will go trick-or-treating, and then the team needs to answer the question. I start each team out with 3 points and take it from there.

I modified nzaslow's http://waygook.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1128 Halloween game Powerpoint to make a 14 slide Midterm Review for my 2nd year middle school students (yellow Middle School 2 Daniel Ryan Keller book).

Many thanks to nzaslow!

Grade 1 Unit 4 Part Two. I have taken the grammar target of "but" to include two adjectives in the same sentence. Such as, "English is interesting but difficult." This is taken from Listening Bon page 50 of Grade 1 new green book.

The lesson plan is pretty simple to follow, the slips of paper for the warmup and the worksheet to print for each group is in the ppt. The worksheets A, B, C are also printable from the ppt. The attached worksheet is printable cards for each group to choose from and make sentences.

When doing the choose the ace at the tail end of the lesson, you need to click on the words above or below the cards. Clicking on the cards themself does nothing.

Give me some feedback on what you think. I used it last year but modified this year

ChunJae (Yellow, Pink)- 2nd Grade Review Bomb Game - Lessons 1~3
« Reply #83 on: April 24, 2011, 11:08:52 pm »
These books are from ChunJaeGyoYook (천재교육).

I am currently teaching 2nd and 3rd graders.  Last week I made a review bomb game for both grades.

I've made it with only twenty questions.  It should last for about 20~25 minutes.  (I had to finish my lessons before playing the games.)  Most of the questions are based on the Listen & Speak, Think & Write, Let's Communicate sections.

Hope it helps for those who need something.   :)

Thanks for all the power points guys!

The extras may need changing, because it is something specific I showed them in class.

I am using this book for middle school grade three and I find the material to be really inconssistent. No of the phrases seem to go together in any discernable way except for the dialogue provided.

I've been sitting here all day deskwarming, doing paperwork, glancing over at my 3rd grade book wondering what in the world i'm going to do on Monday for a game/activity.

Has anyone attemped Lesson 4 (Our Foreign Neighbours) yet?
Looks like I'll be taking my book home this weekend to think of something.
Any tips for a game/activity would be much appreciated.

Hi, I haven't planned all the details of it yet, but I'm doing a 3 week project where the students will in the end produce an advertisement with reasons why overseas tourists should visit their city.  When I'm not feeling lazy I guess I'll plan backwards from the end result to see what I need to do in the first two lessons.

i have a lot of half ideas floating around.
1)   kind of guessing game/picture tour of the foreign areas in korea. along the lines of "where do you think this is?" , and then reveal they're all in korea...followed by something brilliant.

2) week 1: international tour of some obscure places, plus cultural  lessons.
week 2: have them make tourism commercials in groups using key phrases.
or

3) if your school actually provides you with supplies- make travel brochures/posters for countries they want to visit.

hope that's useful.

Wondering if anyone has come up with any fun auxiliary activities to go along with chapter 4 for grades 1 and 2, "Abracadabra" and " Advertisements and Our Life", respectively.

Any simple ideas of how to spice these up?

Any simple ideas of how to spice these up?

For advertisements, I had my kids bring in colors (markers, colored pencils) and I had an advertisement contest.  I pree-taught some common sales superlatives and phrases (the best, cheapest, buy 2 get 1 free) and they had to think of a product, draw a picture, write two sentences and include superlatives.  After I had a best-ad contest where students couldn't choose their own ads.  Best team gets a prize.  The kiddies had a ball with that in most classes last year. For prep's sake, group them and give a sheet of A4 printer paper to each group.

For Abracadabra, I felt the 'focus on sounds' Tune-in portion was important, so I played a quick pronunciation game.  This section draws attention to 'a' sounds; long, short, and unrounded.  My kids are a bit stronger than last year's, so I'm gonna change the activity.  Basically, I showed a word, and every one in the group had to raise their hands and say if it was long, short, or unrounded, then pronounce it correctly.

hope that's useful.

I did travel brochures last year, where students had to tell me 3 famous sights about Pohang (my city), and it was super-fun to create.  I took an A4 sheet and folded it into 3 sections.  The outside had to have a cover, and the inside had to display 3 different landmarks with accompanying sentences.  I had them work in groups of 4, so each person had to sign off.  This was a really fun activity, and I really think they'll enjoy it!

hey guys and gals, only found this thread today (not a frequent waygook.org user... yet), i have the same text books. another teacher and i starting making our own videos after seeing the crappy tune-in alternatives. some of our videos are worse actually, but some received good laughs. i've uploaded the grade 2 lesson 3 video just in case some of you can still use it. have a look. i've also attached two activities to go with the video - one for beginners level students and one for advanced students.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7EixkMShjM

Anyway, thanks to everybody for all the resources. i'll be using them from now on and contributing more of my own.

Grade 2 Lesson 4: Advertisements and our life

As our fun activity i'm having my students advertise absurd products. I give a very basic A4 handout with nothing but a photo in the middle (see attachments for examples). In groups of four they have to turn the page into an ad using catch phrases and colored pens. The products are things not likely to be sold easily: a pair of old shoes, a crocodile, Changdeok Palace.

Two of the best responses I've seen was from a group who advertised a lion as a memorable and sure way to commit suicide if you don't have the balls to jump :o and selling old bread as a live science experiment to watch mold grow as well as warn your relatives to only eat fresh food.

I put together a little activity to throw some movement into the classroom that gets the students practicing the language for 1st grade in chapter 4, Listen and Speak I (page 49).  Good for medium to high level, but could be modified for low level (you'll need more support in explaining the directions for low level, too).

Get students into groups if it is convenient, but I just keep them in their rows and have each row be a group.

There are six different "character pages"; print them out and tape them to different areas of the room.  I covered the text with an additional flap of paper to discourage cheating.

There are two roles that every student will have at one point in the game: "writer" (student doing the listening and writing), and the "runner" (student moving to the character pages, reading them, and reciting the info back to the writer).

Give the first student in each group the worksheet; they will write first.  You may also tell each group to start on different "character pages" (group 1 - start with Mary, group 2 - Bob...) so that the runners aren't banging into each other.

The idea is that a student on the team will write while a different student runs to the correct character page, remembers the information on the character page, and then runs back to their teammate to recite the information.  There should never be more than ONE student from each team standing at a time - deduct points from any team with more than one student standing.

After the first student has written, they pass the paper to the next teammate and stand up to gather the info on the next character page (so the "writer" then becomes the "runner").

If you are playing in rows, to begin the game the last person in the line will be the "runner" for the writer (who is in first position).  In a circular group that won't matter!

The first team to complete there sheet wins!

GRADE 1 LESSON 1-3

a few people on this post have been complaining about how to structure lessons or themes around this book, given that it's content is often all over the show or lacking in substance.

I've taken to printing a simple NOTES leaflet (usually A5) with every lesson highlighting in a simple dialogue the language that they absolutely must be able to speak fluently if they want to pass the speaking tests or the questions I put in the exams. This has helped my weaker students a lot as they don't get bogged down with all the useless trash that crowds the text book. For each lesson I do two, one for advanced student, one for beginners (my students are separated into classes this way.

See the attachments. I'll upload them in 2 comments cause I need to get to my required 5. Sorry for the spamming!  ::)

Where can I get hold of these books? By the sounds of the titeles some of them sound quite good. My school only has one text book which isn't so great.
