For 3rd grade they finish finals this friday.  I have 3 days where they are off on their trip but overall i have about 6 or so weeks of teaching them.  Since my after school is only 1st and 2nd grade though, I am just reworking those lessons to be for 3rd grade....there are things like the survey activities, create a comic book in groups, song challenges, etc

For 1st and 2nd...after their finals in december i have no clue what i'm teaching them.  I'm hoping more inspiration hits before then because I'm running out of ideas although I can always rework an idea i used before....I'll get to it eventually haha

Thanks for your lesson 12 stuff guys!  I really ran out of ideas for that one.  I'll have to post my lesson 11 stuff when I get my laptop back from the tech guy since they are on that hard drive.

Luckily I only have three extra weeks to teach instead of 6....

I'm going to teach a Christmas Lesson and maybe a New Year's Lesson (In America) since my coteachers want me to share American culture with my students.

Then just fun lessons I find on here to keep the students somewhat entertained while still learning English!

What are you guys going to do after you finish the book? Have any of you taught at a middle school for more than one year? I'm curious about the attitudes of the students after the finals. My students' final exams are during the second week of December, but I have two weeks of teaching left before the break, and then I have another couple of weeks before the actual school year ends. I noticed that my good students are having a hard time sitting still this week.

I guess you are not teaching Grade 3's? Lucky! It's very straight forward. After the final exam your students will have all their marks which means they don't have to listen any more. This means that the final few week is for interesting lessons and games (some people just show movies, but I think that is a total waste of us as a resource). Personally I found this Konglish lesson worked very well.

I agree with you... (It's my 2nd year at a middle school.) From my own experience,  the students seem to really go off the chain, especially the 3rd graders, if you open the book up post-exam. And, rightly so. I suppose I'd feel the same way if I were one of them. If you wanna still cover any target language/stuff from the book... maybe just be sneaky and put it into a PPT game or activity of the likes found on here. For instance, the really awesome Pororo, Starcraft, Mario, etc. games found in this thread are great.

Hi... here's some stuff for Grade 1 Lesson 12  - it has to do with the Elephant Story.

1 - My PPT for the lesson to explain the vocab and review after the story (e.g. Elephant's can't...)

2 - Review PPT w/ quick fill in the blanks to go over Lesson 11's main language at the start of class.

3 - Snakes and Ladders Board Game to play after the Elephant Story. It uses the language from the story (e.g. I'll throw in _____). If you need to find dice and/or playdough/post-its to use for game markers.. just go to ALpha or any stationary store... maybe even E-Mart/Homeplus?

*** Please note -- I can't upload this cuz it's a Publisher file. I'll have to convert it, but I must go now. I will do it tomorrow.

4- PPT to explain aforementioned Snakes and Ladders Game. How to play...

5 - Sonic Game for the Elephant Story content. Many thanks to Shane Teacher/Daejon/Waygook.org for this game!!!! My students love it! Cheers!  **Please note: The reason I made this game was because a lot of my lower-level students get too focused on the playdough game pieces and not the board game. So, I made this game for them in lieu of snakes 'n ladders. It went over quite well. So, again, thanks to the creators of it!!!!!!

Hello again... here's a PDF version of the game. Sorry for the delay. I'm not that tech savvy and thought that I'd have a hard time converting the publisher file to adobe...

A little while back on here, maybe page 30?, people were talking about activities/ideas for post-exam. Here are some song listening fill-in-the-blanks and accompanying word puzzles (I didn't make a puzzle for the Mariah one, sorry) that I made. I've used the Mariah Carey and Wham ones last year with good success.  There are easy and more difficult versions of the fill-in-the-blanks since I have a few high-level classes.

Oh, as for the music... you can use YouTube to get the songs.

To start, I usually put up a question on the board like 'Who sings this?' with 3 choices a, b,c then play the song. Then go to the listening and writing.

The PPT to accompany Last Christmas also has some slides for explaining some of the idioms in the song. I never had time to do this, but if you do, it's there.

Here's another listen and fill in the blanks that I made for the Grinch song. I never used it because I didn't have anymore classes at the end of last year. But, I figure you could find the clip on YouTube and play it as well because it's pretty cute (well, in my opinion). Anyhow, just an idea. I have a word file with the full song and one with blanks.

Hello again... one more song listening fill-in-the-blanks. This one is for Lady Gaga's 'Paparazzi'. I also have a  PPT to kind of intro the song and some of the words and one key phrase (e.g. chase you down). There is a wordsearch for after the song also. You can get the song from YouTube as I did. I tried to upload the avi.file/.mp4 file that I converted of it, but I can't seem to be able to. Sorry!

I found the .avi file for the song... you can just play it separately from the PPT.

A Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" song listening and gap fill. I did this last year and it was good because the students knew the song and liked it. I have a PPT with the answers to the fill in the blanks and two versions (easy and more difficult) of the gap fill, as well as, the full version of the song. Last year, my co-teacher had the bright idea to play the video for the song to make it more entertaining which was cool, too.

Here's some stuff for Grade 3 Lesson 11. I know it might be a little late for some of you, sorry about not posting sooner! This past week I haven't had time to get on here.

Anyhow, I made some cards to play Go Fish regarding the "I'm planning to..." dialogue. They are pics of Spongebob snowboarding, singing, etc. It has gone over well with my classes with quite a few groups asking to play again. Of course, it's not a hit with everyone, but it did work well. I took the time to laminate them all and glue the paper onto the back of another paper so that the cards were not see-through. But, if you don't have the time or energy to do that. I think it would work well on the fly regardless of laminates. It could also be a good review activity. Also, there is a PPT to help intro/review the target language and to help explain how to play the game. You might want to get your co-teacher to help explain it here if it's the first time playing just for peace of mind and to start the game sooner. I got caught up trying to explain it thoroughly and would've rather had that extra time for game play. Anyhow, here it is...

As well, the WINTER VACAY PPT is just to help practice the dialogue.

The BOMB GAME is for the I'm planning to dialogue. I got that template online last year somewhere and can't remember where, but whoever made it is genuis!! I've played it many times before and it's a real hit with students. So, a big THANK-YOU to the creator of that game.

Also, the Bomb game sorry file is a bomb game for the 'Sorry, but I have to go...' dialogue. I play it in teams and the winner gets a candy.

A Kaboom game for the Lesson 11 dialogue that you can use as either a team or single player game.

A review slide for the lesson 10 dialogue.

Stuff for Grade 2 Lesson 11   'interested in' and 'thank you...'

The JOBS QUIZ file I did to intro/review some job names. Play the PPT and have the students write down the 12 names. Then check the answers and go into the dialogue practice.

The interested in file is for practice of the dialogue. It also has a 'Who Am I?' guessing game at the end of it. I did that with the students in teams of 6 and it worked out alright. I had them guess the interested in ... and then the 'who am i?' - each correct guess gets a point with the winner getting a candy.

The Speaking Practice PPT - is for the compliment stuff. I had some student volunteers come up to role play giving the compliment and saying thank-you. The easy file has more fill in the blanks in it for my lower-level students.

The Bomb Game is for practice of the 'interested in' dialogue.

The Creative Foods file... well, I guess it's more just for fun rather than review. I got a little carried away searching for creative foods files on the web.

A review slide with fill in the blanks to review the target dialogue at the start of class.

Oh, I was typing so much that I forgot... haha. The Typhoon Game is another really good PPT game that I got online (same place I got the Bomb Game) but, can't remember where. It is a real hit with students as well. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! to whoever made that game.

Grade 1 Lesson 11 stuff...

Many, many thanks to the poster who put up the Would you Mind 4x4 game for Grade 2 a while ago! I can't quite remember who it was and I'll have to check. But, I think it was fudoose. Anyways, that game was great so thank-you. I took your idea and PPT and modified it to practice the "What does it look like?" /"It has.../ It is..." stuff as a game. I haven't tried it yet - but will do it next week as a review.

Also, I have some PPTs with pics of animals and arrows pointing to the various body parts to have students practice the "What does it look like?/ It has..." stuff. It's a little boring, but you could use it at the last 5 mins of class and award the team/person who gets it right with a candy/sticker etc. to make it more fun. I have and included a similar PPT with some famous people and funny pics from the web.

Another TYPHOON Team  Game - again, thanks to whoever created that - to practice the 'What does it look like?' stuff.

The Alien Drawing stuff I prepared and did based on modifying Page 138's activity. Every time I did it before (last year and when I started the lesson this year) students got a little carried away with the cool alien pics and only one or two groups were actually doing the activity correctly. So, I changed the activity to where I am the speaker and students must draw. It worked well and the students seemed to enjoy themselves. I check afterwards to see who has the best on at each table (6 tables in my classroom). The Aliens PPT I do before the activity to kinda pre-teach some of the alien vocab (e.g. horns, antenna, etc.).
The Group DrawingPages file is for the handout for the students to draw on, or you can just have 'em draw in their book on Page 138.
