Worksheet for "Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See."-- we had this book in my schools library & I hope to think that most schools do too. I made the animals page size for flashcards of learning the animal before reading the book to students. While reading the story the 2nd time I had them color the animals the same color that they were in the story. They had fun with it!

I've attached the syllabus I use for my grade 1/2 afterschool class (the syllabus is for the entire school year).

I've also attached some PPTs I use..so hopefully this helps!

Also having trouble locating a 1st/2nd grade thread.  Last semester my 1st & 2nd graders worked on colors, numbers, body parts, shapes, animals, weather, actions, and a few expressions.  Here are 2 Jeopardy review games.

I also used a game with different colored balls (you could use squares of paper) and paired the kids up. They line the materials up on their desk and I shout out a color, then one of them has to grab it before the other one. We didn't play for points, but that may add another level of interest to the game.

There are enough materials here for at least one lesson. You could easily make it last two or three lessons though.

Ended up using all these materials - thanks a lot!!

Today the weather was good so we went outside to put this into practice, counting stuff around the school. I've attached the PPT I used and handout I gave to the kids (they worked in groups of 4).

I can't guarantee the accuracy of the Korean on the last slide of the PPT as I wrote it myself - I usually teach this class alone but if you have a Korean teacher present to help you translate rules then you obviously won't need the last slide.

It says something like:

While doing activities outside of the English room:
1. Make sure you stay with your team!
2. Don't run!
3. Don't enter other classrooms!
4. Don't scream and shout!
5. Come back at the specified time!

(I've also attached the font used in the PPT - I use this for all my PPT's as it's easy to read for young kids - no funny shaped a's or g's etc. I highly recommend you install it)

I have to teach K, 1, and 2 once a week and I was given no instructions or expectations or anything. I stumbled across this website (http://www.mes-english.com/curriculum/unit1.php) and I have been using it for all of my low grade classes. I make it easier for the K's and harder for the 2's obviously, but so far it has been going over pretty well.

My school lets me teach as I please for Grade 1,2 and young learners..

Try making simple Origami with them - as they follow you instructions in English

I use an ABC song off youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XYQd_sJVzk ) to signal the start of the class, and this got them sitting down and singing, they love it! Then some worksheets or coloring or drawing - with promise of candy for the best one. Maybe a bit of bingo (the prize for a line was a 'high 5' and they loved it!), then a running game or TPR song to finish.

I play this song at the beginning of every class to get my first and second graders settled down(-ish).  As far as I'm concerned, this song is a godsend.  I have yet to find one that the class enjoys as much as this one.

I've been going through the alphabet with my class, trying to teach them how to write the letters and understand simple phonics.  Things that I've found that work well so far are the Stomp Game (for simple phonics review) and the ABC writing practice worksheets from www.kizclub.com.

I used this with my grade one afterschool class.  The Korean made it very helpful for them to learn quickly.  We also used the busy beaver song on youtube for prepositions.  I ended the week by making eggs in a basket and they had to tell me where they wanted the eggs and cheese in relation to the bread.

I have one kindergarten class a week and one 1st and 2nd grade after school class a week. They both LOOOOOVE this song. I've played it multiple times for them, they get really excited. I do motions also with the song. You can also teach them the vocabulary in the song.

This is one is pretty weirdly specific, but here's a ppt for a few vocab words that start with 'S'.  I think 6 words at one time is probably the most their attention spans can handle at one time.

This is a pass the pencil case game I made for 'Go away, Big Green Monster' by Ed Emberely. I used this for a 2nd grade class and they ate it up. It's very simple so you might want to tweak it some but hopefully it's of use to someone out there in waygook-land

Here's another game. It's a Pororo Bomb Game (template stolen from another thread--thanks SO much!) of review of family, some action words, and other vocab I've taught my students. I'm using the Super Kids English series so the review is mainly based off chapter 2 of that book. Also, this thread (and others for 1st and 2nd grade) are getting ridiculously long. Could we have a separate section on the site just for 1st and 2nd grade (like there is for 3-6)? Just a suggestion.
