Made this Doraemon Game today in a mad hurry, but it basically consists of questions on transportation and clothing as well as a couple of phonics q's.

Not brilliant, but could save someone when a surprise class gets sprung on you!

Thanks to everyone for all the helpful resources and tips. I was happy to find out that my "spirited" (uncooperative) 1st and 2nd grade classes are not unique to my teaching style, etc. Attached are some powerpoints I made for my classes over the last couple weeks, they include topics such as animals, colors, and transportation / simple directions.

Here is my lesson plan and PPTs that I used to introduce shapes and also all of the outlines for the shapes that you will need to play the game. Kids really got in to the game, and enjoyed my PPT as well. You may want to resize the shapes from the PPT that I made.

Shapes – Lesson for Grade 2
1. Shapes Song =

- listen once; review; sing together once

2. Introduce & Review  (using PPT with soccer ball, etc.) =
-   Rectangle
-   Star
-   Square
-   Triangle
-   Circle

3. Everyone has different shape
     1. Color and design the shape
     2. Stand up stars! Stand up rectangles!, etc.
     3. Musical chairs – anyone who has a star, change seats – last person to get a chair loses and comes up  to the front – at the end, the group of ‘losers’ at the front have to wiggle their bums in the shape of their last name.

Is this song too difficult for kinder kids?  I find it really hard to judge their capabilities.

For letter sounds, I teach the students a sound and then I introduce words that have that sound. After a few examples I put in other words that the student need to tell me if it is the same sound by giving me a thumbs up or down.

Lesson Plan for "Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Night".

INTRO
After the basic intros, I did a super-quick PPT explanation (attached) of what each phrase means. Ask "If it's 8 am, what do you say? If it's 3 pm?" and have students yell out the correct phrase.

LISTENING ACTIVITY
Then Good Night Moon -- -- I play it once, then ask what she says goodnight to, then play it again and in both cases almost every hand shot up as soon as it was done. Both homeroom teachers (not English co-teachers) were extremely impressed that the kids listened so well.

TALKING GAME
Telephone - about 15 minutes. Simple phrases like "good morning, mom" or "good afternoon, teacher". Three big teams, the competition works well even without a candy prize.

CONCLUSION
Review the phrases, play Hangman if there's more than five minutes.

okapifire, it depends on what you're wanting the kids to get from the song. They'll probably pick up on the "d" sound and the basic vocab words, especially after they've seen it a few times, but the "do's and don'ts" part might be a little beyond them without a LOT of teacher help.

That being said, just a general tip for those of you who finish every lesson with a song.. after the kids are familiar with it, pick two kids every lesson to come up to the front and be "song leaders." They LOVE it and it gets them some speaking practice giving the class commands, like "stand up!" I've used this so far with "walking, walking" from supersimple songs and raffi's "shake shake."

Another game we play is "silly superman." Have the kids call out an emotion or animal and then "superman" and you, the teacher, have to perform that type of superman. ("monkey superman!" or "angry superman!") The kids totally crack up, and even your shyest kids will get really into it!

I'm doing a unit on colors this week, and incorporating a review of the sea creatures lesson I taught a few weeks ago:

1. Introduce colors flash cards
2. Butterfly colors song ( )
3. Sing the butterfly colors song again, and if the kids are wearing that color they can flap around like a butterfly
4. Genki English "I Like Pink Fish" game, using sea creatures and colors
5. Interactive story board about sea creatures. I made up a little story with a lot of scenes with different colors and animals, and I have a blank board that looks like an ocean scene. So after each scene, I'll ask for volunteers to put the appropriately colored animals on the board to make the story! I'm not allowed to do crafts with my kids, so I thought this would be a fun way to get them up and interacting.

...I do have a Korean co-teacher to help me translate directions; without one, this last activity might be kind of tricky to explain for someone who doesn't speak Korean.

Here is a pororo game for reviewing teachers and places at school like cafeteria, bathroom, science room etc.  You'll need to add pictures of yourself for the slides that say "English teacher"  Good way to review phrase "it's the _____" too

These are the first several lessons I taught my second graders, after teaching them the alphabet.
1. Animals: The vocab words were: cat, duck, cow, pig, horse, and dog
This powerpoint first shows pictures of these six animals, along with their spelling.
We talked about the spelling, and pronunciation, and then used the rest of the powerpoint to play a "Guess the Animal" game.  Pictures of the animals were blocked by different shapes, and the students tried to guess what animal was being blocked by the shape.  Each animal picture is first blocked a lot, and then less and less, until there is nothing blocking the animal.  The game is pretty easy, but students seemed to enjoy seeing the different pictures, and were excited by the final reveal.
2. Colors- The vocab words were: red, blue, yellow, green, black, orange, purple, pink, and white.  The idea with this powerpoint was to get the students practicing the words one at a time, introducing a new color when they seemed familiar with the previous ones.  Each time a new color is introduced, the students learned the word, and then played a speed game (who can shout out the color the fastest) reviewing all the old colors. And then a new color is introduced.  After the powerpoint the students reviewed by coloring in a worksheet, following my directions for what colors went where.
3. Directions - The vocab words were: left, right, up, down, stop, and go.  The powerpoint is animated, so the students see the spelling and then see the word going the direction it specifies.  To practice we did the Cupid Shuffle <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h24_zoqu4_Q&feature=fvst> (starts at 1:06), but with lyrics changed to:
To the right, to the right, to the right, to the right
To the left, to the left, to the left, to the left,
Now stop! Now go! Now stop! Now go!
Now jump up and jump down, Now jump up and jump down.
The kids really liked trying to get as far as they could one direction before having to switch to the next direction.
4. This is just an animal and reading review.  The classroom we used had a touch screen, which the students really enjoyed using, so this powerpoint was designed to have the students interact with it directly.  Each slide has three animal pictures, and one animal vocab word.  For example, a slide might show a pig, a cat, and a dog, with the word "dog" written above. The student would try to read the animal name, and then come touch the correct picture of that animal on the screen.   Unfortunately, if the student picks the correct picture, the slide does not move on to the next question, it simply deletes one of the wrong answers, and the student must hit the screen two more times before the next slide will show.
5. Color/Animal/Direction/Reading Review- This powerpoint was used as part of a two team game.  Teams would take turns answering what the slide showed, and if they were correct, they got to roll a dice.  The students really enjoyed being able to roll the dice.  However, for the answer to be correct, they must say the animal (or word) and the color (or direction the picture was moving) depending on what each slide shows.

thanks man!!

I used a couple of pictures from MES-english and made up some pptsto introduce animals and the expressions "This is a ..." "Is this a ....?" "yes, it is." or "No, it isn't" and a bomb two bomb games for practice. It took up four lessons because my grade 2's are pretty low level but they enjoyed it a lot.

I've been teaching my grade 2's head, shoulders, knees and toes and colors. I used Shane's halloween game based on a few color, body part questions, but I changed the monsters to less scary versions.

Hi, I'm required to teach the word endings "ame", "ake", and "ase" to my level 2 afterclass tomorrow. Any suggestions from more experienced teachers would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.  ;D

Made a basic powerpoint to teach I like/I don't like with some vocab from previous lessons, it's half animals and half activities. I'm planning to play a whisper game with it as well.

this is a lesson on self introduction and expressing moods. i have students go over introductions quickly and then have students practice by reading the conversation between Pororo and Loopy. the rest is self-explanatory, the students learn the moods and there is a quick review at the end of the ppt.

I appreciate everyone's ideas and thoughts on teaching the young ones! They've been a joy and challenge to teach!

While teaching numbers to 1st grade I made this powerpoint that I also used as review for some of the older elementary students as well. They really like the challenge of counting delicious looking sweets!

For 1st grade Halloween lesson I did a review of colors and letters with this color by letter Jack 'olantern! It was especially exciting to them because they LOVE coloring and I had just explained what a jack 'olantern was and how to make one. Wish I could have made actual jack 'olanterns with them!
