I don't make many materials for my 1st and 2nd, but here're some things I've put together for a fruit unit.

The coloring pages are for a color sort activity - students will color each fruit the right color, then choose which basket it belongs in.  I'll color in the baskets myself and attach a little sign to it for each color.  Nothing original here - just put together a bunch of different fruit coloring sheets, but might save someone a bit of work.

I'm adding a few games, they're adaptations of the usual PPTs, so pretty self-explanatory.

I think this would be a good alphabet R song for Gr.1/2 students.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9BzWBufH1s&feature=related

they've got songs for other letters, too

There are quite a few songs the children recognize.  I did Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in my 1st and 2nd grade classes recently and my co-teacher and I pointed to the areas on our bodies to see if they remembered the words.  You can also find the songs on freeabcsongs.com, it allows you to download an mp3 of the file if you cannot access the web at your school.  But, it's also more convenient for saving I think.

I had totally forgotten about the Sesame Street video 1-2. I teach pre-k 5 days a week and it is difficult to keep their attention for more than 4-5 minutes. Thanks for the reminder!

Here's a great game the kids love once they get it. It's easier to explain with a co-teacher.

It can be played with any number of students over 5, more is better.
Good for teaching any vocabulary. I started off using colors.

Arrange the chairs in a circle, with one less chair than the number of students.
Each student sits down and gets a colored object (or whatever represents the vocab being taught -sticker/badge with word, etc. The student should be able to see it.) except one student who stands in the center of the chair circle.
There should be at least two the same of each color/word. These students will swap seats. Space out the matching colors/words around the circle.

The teacher calls out a color/word. The students with that color/word repeat it, jump up and swap seats. The student in the center tries to steal a vacated seat before the other students sit down. If they do they take the color/word of the student left standing.

This can be pretty frenetic and the kids love it. Watch out for hazards, things they might fall on, it can get rough!

I play a game with the kids that is a relay race. They have to balance a paper cup on their head and if run down to the other side of the room. They then an answer a question based on the material they learned that day or review, and then return to their team and pass off the cup. The kids seem to really enjoy the competition.

Here's an easy game using flashcards and chairs to reinforce listening and new vocab.

Place four or more chairs in a row with a flashcard stuck to each. Two students race to sit first in the one correct chair for the word called out by the teacher. Don't pit sporty boys against timid girls!

Once they are good a student can compete with the teacher, the words being called out by another student.
Kids seem to love playing against the teacher, of course it's good to let them win mostly  ;)

Here is a powerpoint for the Five little ducks song. It's been adapted from another site's powerpoint with other pictures being added. I also found a matching Youtube song to go with it. (Good for learning the numbers 1-5)

And attached is two worksheets for students to make little ducks to sing with the class. And the teacher can make the mother duck.

Hope it helps. :)

With Kindergarden classes that have no English, I find using Animal or Place name tags really effective. The kids think its hilarious to call each other "cow" or "duck" and they learn the vocabulary really quick. You can use flashcards, like these:

Hello everyone,

Presently, I am teaching first grade and Kinder garden students (SS) twice per week.

Now, depending on the amount of SS you have, after you introduced the various shapes, you can then try to get them to response in complete sentences. Of course, that all depends on the level of  your SS.

If they are having difficuties, then you should play the shape and color song

Depending on time, you can give each SS a piece of paper and you say aloud (one at a time) the different shapes and have them draw each shape they have heard.

Please, see the attached links for the lesson on shapes and the songs.

Good luck!

Here is a great song that can be used for the Kindergarden or first grade students (SS).

I have played this song between two or three times. Now am amazed to hear almost all of my SS sing the words out aloud.   Am even getting the "shy one" to sing along!

Here are the lyrics, you try it. Do it with "action" together with  them

This is a ppt for colours. After this we had a competition to see who could name the colours fastest (boys vs girls in 2 lines). Then we of course coloured, their favourite thing to do! It is also good to introduce fruit! (red apple, orange orange, yellow banana, green grapes, blue blueberries, purple grapes, pink grapefruit, black blackberries, white mangosteen, brown coconuts, grey/gray shark lol)

A good lesson and video for 1st/ 2nd graders would be heads, shoulder, knees, and toes. My kids loved the interaction. This video on youtube was helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxphoOOwTbo
