Here's a quick ppt to go with the Global Wonders link to introduce the greetings used in the song.

I can't take full credit for this because took this game from this website but changed it for this book. The kids seemed to really enjoy it.

Anyone know where I can get the image files for the characters in the book? I want to make some flash card based activities / include the characters in my powerpoints.

Many thanks,

Patrick

Looks like:  yellow with a globe on it

Unit 1 - Hi I'm Bobo.

Hey,
Here are the materials I have prepared for unit 1. There are two power points and 2 activities.

PPT 1: Grade 3 - Unit 1 - Lesson 1 - Hi Im BoBo - Grammar

This one focuses on the grammar: 'Hi, My name is ..........'
It also contains a slow reveal game (a picture is revealed bit by bit, the students must guess who the character is by saying 'Hello. My name is ......'.

- To start the reveal of the picture, click anywhere. To pause it, press 1, to continue the reveal press '~'

PPT 1: Grade 3 - Unit 1 - Hi, I'm Bobo - Lesson 2 Grammar

a) Nice to meet you - Stolen from someone else - shows we should only use "nice to meet you" the first time we meet someone.

Grade 3 - Unit 1 - Lesson 1 - Hi Im BoBo - Pass The Ball

A simple pass the ball game - modified from another user.

Grade 3- Unit 1 - Hi, I'm Bobo - WB Quiz

A white board quiz game. Each student has their own little white board (or some kind of true / false indicator they can hold up). A picture of a character / famous person / my family member will be on the screen, along with "Hello, my name is ......." .... students have to guess if its the correct name. If they guess correctly they continue to the next round, if they are incorrect they are out.

Memory Game

I also plan to make a memory game for lesson 2 using pictures of the students from each class. Will post that once it is done.

Hope these are of use,

Any suggestions, drop me a message.

I scanned page 137 and cropped the individual characters.
Hope it helps!

Just in case you couldn't find it on the CD, here is the English lesson plan for lesson 1.

I'd love to be able to find it on the CD, so I can look them up for each lesson as I go along.  Any tips?

If anyone is interested at the back of the book there are flashcards of the characters. I used these to make a simple bingo game by photocopying them in different orders.

For anyone who has the same new textbooks for 3rd grade as I do, I've made a short guessing game for the students with the new characters.  I know the pictures are a bit stretched out, but it works.

Thank you so much! I'm not too sure how my co-teacher wants me to teach the class, but this will give me a good base to jump from in terms of how interactive they will be with me. ^^

Hi! My co-teacher is really in to using the chants from the book. Some are OK, but they get a little old after a while. Has anyone found some good songs or call-and-response drills that could replace the chants in the book?

Also a good idea is if you have access to the CD you might be able to get a good screen shot of each character and just crop the photo down in the ppt or the word doc you are using. I did that for some other classes and it makes a nicer resolution photo than some of the scanned ones.

a great game is to copy the characters in the book and create a game where you simply print out the characters and place them on board. Make a guessing game about the characters names

Here's a PPT I made to highlight the phrases for this lesson using some popular characters.

Toward the end there is a bit in Korean emphasizing that 'Nice to meet you' is only used when you first meet someone (hopefully through vigilance and determination we can eradicate the daily misuse of this innocent expression  ;) ).

Honestly i'm slightly scared of my 3rd grade lessons when one of my co-teachers came up to me today and asked how my lesson plans are coming along. She dropped the hint that some of my students might not even know the alphabet to well so don't make it too advanced. This would have been helpful a little earlier  :(

I have yet to come across a lesson plan for lesson 3, but wouldn't mind working with you to come up with one.

I don't have bobo - I have Ottie the otter - which I am starting to think I am the only school that has a little otter - I don't think my co-t likes aliens...she's a bit of a realist, that being said -

I have created a hot potato game with a ball - I don't have a lot of kids in my classes, my school is small - so max 16 kids and min is 9.

My co-t thinks we all rely on powerpoint too much so - I have resorted to old camp fire games I taught when I was teaching in after school programs in the U.S.

Hello hot potato game - Find the song Make new friends on youtube.  You can turn it into a sentence game. Which I do also in different classes, it gets the kids moving and using physical activity to memorize words and phrases...great for your kinesthetic learners.

Circle make new friends game.
Like hot potato, kids have to pass it and say the name of themselves, then the name of the person they passed it to, the next kid says the first person who started the game, the person who passed it, and their name, and the person they pass the "potato" to.

This game tests memory, yours and the kids. It can be a lot of fun, don't just let them pass the "potato" in a circle, have them toss it to each other randomly. Makes it a lot more fun and challenging. Plus you get to know your kids names and they get to know you better.

You are lucky! I had Ottie last year and he was cute. Seriously what the $%#$%#$ is Bobo? They couldn't spend more than 10 seconds thinking of a likable character to use for the whole year?
