Currency Lesson
« on: March 10, 2011, 01:17:57 PM »
I did a lesson on different currencies. Created a ppt with different currencies and had the kids guess what the currencies were. It is a multiple choice ppt. Afterwards, the kids created their own currency. I asked them to put their face in the center. I pinned all their monies on our bulletin board. They loved looking at them.

Good powerpoint - I think I'll give this a go in an after school class. When they created their own? Did you give them a template to use?

What I did was run the ppt, have the kids guess. After the ppt was done we would talk about their favorite currencies and then I would pose the question. If you could create your own money, what would it look like?
I went through bank note images and used an american dollar bill and blanked out the amount,  face, and country. Printed that off and had the students make their own.

My students really enjoyed it.

Another tip : make your own fake money for class. You can use the money the students made or print off your home currency. It come in very handy when you are playing auction games or any team buying games. I make bundles of 300, 000 won and that usually lasts the group for the games we play.

My kids will love this, I'm combining it with a "Price is Right" lesson. 1 thing- the South African bank note is wrong. There is no R500 note-that was a hoax! Thanks for the lesson!
