I like that this thread exists . . .

might be pulling the old fake test one . . . but actually hand out a paper face down and being really serious and then have them all turn it over at the same time. It will say "april fools!"

I usually go for the surprise test announcement or the news that it is my last day.

The kids usually catch on pretty quickly but it can lead to a decent 10 - 15 minute discussion comparing April Fool's Day to their equivalent "Lying Day", 만우절, the key distinction being that they don't really indulge in physical pranks as much. I then ask that the kids each think of a lie to tell me.
