Renewing in August 2011 with SMOE - Doc's Needed?
« on: March 15, 2011, 07:25:11 PM »
Hey All,

So I've been reading some posts on Waygook about documents needed regarding renewing E-2 Visas. I'm with SMOE in Seoul. I've never renewed before. I e-mailed SMOE and they said that I will need ANOTHER degree notarized and apositlled and ANOTHER Criminal Record Check apostilled. They also said that Immigration has been telling ppl different things so they suggested getting these documents on the go asap as the RCMP Criminal Record Check can take up to 3 months. I've tried to call Immigration but it's always busy.

What documents do we need for a first time renewal of an E-2 visa in August? Does anybody know for sure?!

Thanks,
Erika :)

I am wondering the same thing.  For the people who are renewing in August (for their first time), do they need to get a CRC and notarized diplomas?

I know that their are so many questions and mixed messages about the new visa requirements, but can anyone help?

Similarly wondering the same. At a teacher training session thing, they said that we didn't need to have the new CRC or anything like that until 2012, so I'm not sure what to believe now. The EPIK SMOE sit hasn't been helpful, either.

Does anybody have a link or some helpful, definitive information on this? I've drudged through the EPIK / SMOE site a few times and found nothing specifically pertaining to first time renewals in August 2011.

Thanks~

Hola Folks,

Been chatting with my coteacher and she advised the following:

  • Health Check Report including HIV/Drug test ( 1 x original, 1 x copy for SMOE, 1 x copy for the school, 1 x copy for your records or for Immigration people)

·  Visa extension:

o   Visa extension application form (which school will forward to us when they are sent it)

        o   Passport

        o   Alien Registration Card

        o   New Contract - issued by school/SMOE

o   Certificate of Employment - the date of this needs to be close to the application date of renewal (school will provide)

o   School certificate of Business Registration (school will provide) - I think it's a copy only from memory

        o   30,000 won processing fee

·         Teaching Open Class for Evaluation: –Head Teacher, Vice Principal, Principal, Co-teacher (you need to achieve >70%)

However, I am Australian and don't think I fall under all that Federal Police check business that Amercians are subject too.

Hope that is of some help.

Cheers,

LR

you don't need a new CRC......just a medical check. You will simply get a renewal contract to sign and that's all that is needed (for my last 2 renewals at least). Unless SMOE/EPIK have changed their policies?I know even hagwon teachers don't need to submit a new CRC check when renewing.

Call the 1234 information number.  That being said, every counter at every immigration office has a different story. The criminal record check and apostillised degree thing is suppose to have been put on hold till 2012...supposed !!!!!

This is what I've heard, but like I said, I've also heard conflicting reports that we do need it after all. I'm from Canada, and I've heard the RCMP CRCs are slower than slow.

Is there any primary source information we can find? Like, something definitive that isn't just second hand information?

Don't know how official this is, but I'm going to roll with it for now.
Good luck!
