High School - Extreme Sports

This is usually a fun one.

The lesson goes through 5 different extreme sport.  Talk a little about each one.  The title of each slide links to a youtube video showing an example of the sport.  After I get the students to answer and talk about 5 questions:
 1) What do you do for fun?
 2) Why do people do extreme sports?
 3) Would you ever try an extreme sport? Why?
 4) Which sport is the most dangerous? Why?
 3) What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?

My students enjoyed the lesson. Though it was nearly impossible to get more than a two word answer out of them.

Yesterday I had to scrap a lesson because it failed miserably and had to find another lesson ASAP. Your lesson was just what I needed! It worked extremely well with my classes! I added a game after the discussion questions in which I showed pictures of various sports. They had to A) guess the sport B) spell the name of the sport correctly and C) determine if the sport was extreme or not.

This lesson plan is very simple. The objective is to encourage Ss to discuss a subject they are actually interested in, sports, in the hope it will build their confidence for discussing other topics too.

We start off by analyzing interesting sports as a class/groups for higher levels and eventually move onto to students analyzing their own sports and interviewing each other.

There are different hand-outs depending on the level of the class, with lower classes getting more support.

Hi everyone

Herewith a lesson for 2nd Grade but I ended up using it for the 1st Graders too - so the lesson is well tested and tried - and generally, it went quite well. The 2nd Grade test book deals with sport - but in a rather boring way - hence this lesson using testbook structures like "what made you decide to" in a bit more of an exciting way with extreme sport.
The PPT is self explanatory - but questions are always welcome.

Just did an extreme sports lesson this week with my 2nd graders in conjunction with a lesson in the book. It worked really well especially since I work at an all-boys school

Thanks for the great idea.  I teach at an all boys technical high school, and they loved this lesson!  I tweaked it a bit to adjust it to the needs of my students... The slide that says "What do I do for fun? I snowboard!" those pictures are of me, so you can obviously change that slide.  I just went through the different extreme sports with them, letting them guess the name of the sport based off the picture before I told them the name.  I also let them guess what equipment was needed before I showed them.  This allowed them to be creative... I got some funny responses, like one kid would say for every sport that you need a "body." lol
The activity is pretty sraight forward, as I have an example of what they are to do in the slideshow.  Of course, have a few kids present when they are done with the activity.  The game at the end worked pretty straight forward.  I split the class into 4 teams and showed a picture of a piece of equipment.  If the team got the sport right on the first guess they would get 3 points, if they got it right on their second guess they would only get 1 point.  I stayed strict with those rules (which I don't always do for games) but it worked well as they realised that if they wanted 3 points they could just shout out any sport.

There is also a snowboarding movie and a parkour movie embedded in the slideshow, which the students really enjoyed!

I haven't hit the 5 post mark for downloading material yet, but I created my own PPT based on this idea and my kids loved it. I have low-level high school students and they seem to enjoy any lesson based around things they have never seen before. I included parkour, base jumping, cliff diving, freestyle motorcross, freestyle snowmobiling, mountain boarding, barefoot water skiing, and whitewater kayaking just to name a few.
