I know we all get a lot of "You eat Korean food very well!" or "You can read Korean? You must be very smart!" and after a while, these kind of lose a little of their meaning.

But I'm curious, what positive things have Koreans said to you here, inside or outside of school, that really stuck with you?

Mine:

The other day, I asked a teacher for whom I have an immense amount of academic respect, if she had any suggestions or advice for my teaching.
She responded, after thinking for a while, "Cole, I think you should not change your teaching style. Students and teachers see you are dedicated and hard working, and we are very thankful for you."

D'awwwww.

Great thread!

While I know that it's more a comment on me being white than anything to do specifically with my appearance, being called "handsome" 47 times a day is rather nice haha.

I've also been complimented on my chopstick-using skills...even though I SUCK with the metal ones and apparently I hold them wrong :D

A few teachers have told me that the kids like my classes and that they think I'm off to a good start (just started at this school on Tuesday).

'You look young today!' Cool.
The best one I've had though is definitely 'You are a good teacher.' Who doesn't want to hear that?

"You know, when I talk with you, it's almost like you are a Korean....almost."

Gee, thanks...

Hell, at least it was honest.

I've been told that I act like an ancient confusionist scholar....

I've been told that I look like Obama and some teachers call me Obama teacher....

I've been told I look like Wonbin....

So far no comments on my teaching =/ must be doing a poor job.

"Whoa, you have a big head!"
Vincent: What'cha mean walk the earth?
Jules: You know, walk the earth, meet people... get into adventures. Like Caine from "Kung Fu."

"Ancient Confucian scholar" seems like a pretty teacherly comment.

I wish I got called a 'scholar.'

Yesterday, my "handler" co-teacher told me that another co-teacher, one who i have been thinking thinks that I am a total pain/waste of her time, said that I have a natural knack for teaching, that I am a natural teacher. (I've only been here three weeks and just started seeing classes for the second time, so to me that was huge!)

That I am a good teacher and that the school is lucky to have me. Also my Co said I was the best foreign teacher she has had and she has had a few after teaching for so long. I felt a little pressure.

My other Co said that my class were interesting and she wished she could be as creative, but I told her I hve a little bit more time than her. Also being told that the kids ask about me...like when will they have class with me. :)

Hell, at least it was honest.

yah i have a super-picky-eater-coT so whenever I eat stuff she doesn't, everyone says "Ohhh you're more Korean than she is!"

I just like food....

compliment-wise though...my old VP thought I was "clever" (little does he know...), another teacher called me a "dynamic woman," and after i busted out some dancing at the festival last year, the principal said i was...a treasure, or something along those lines.

woooo hero worship!

I was told at the end of semester teaching dinner 'You must have Korean ancestors' because i ate loads of sashimi and spoke to colleagues in my terrible broken Korean. It was a nice thing to say though.

I was also told 'You look very handsome in your green sweater today, it suits your very white face'

I'm still working out if it was an insult or compliment. :)

"Scott teacher you are my angel, but I am sad because now you don't have wings" - I took it as a compliment, I just thought it was really cute ^_^

I heard my personal favorite the first time I met my new vice principal. He was listening to me talk to my coteacher and said, "Wow! You speak English very well!"

As for an actual compliment, my principal came up to me one day and said, "Students love you because you always happy. You are like angel."

Ah, my principal telling everyone that I am a son to him! Though I feel it puts me in a bit of awkward situation when he says this to the other male teachers when I'm standing confused yet smiling (since I don't understand Korean), with his arm around my shoulder.
