Wow amazing! impressive to see such "quality" PPTs!

DMZ you're awesome! However, just to quickly point out that am not sure if I fully agree with the population statistics. I'm from JHB, and have stayed in Canada in recent years. I might be wrong, but I honestly feel that there are more S.A. "Whites" who live in the country than what is being portrayed. I feel that the publicized figures are only propaganda. But, I'm not at all pointing fingures at you (but the media). It's just a "black" paint that our 'destructors' want us to have....too-bad for them, we're such a progressive country irrespective. This is just a PHD syndrome.....where they'd like to see us being like most of the African countries that are faced with a lot of problems.

And also good job to ya exForever J! Thanx a lot guyz for such wonderful job!

Hi Cris, thanks for the compliment :) I got the population statistics from the internet (of course not always the most reliable source) and I thought they sounded about right. I'd be very interested to hear more about your views that there are in fact more whites in SA than what is publicized. I've read that there have been massive influxes of British immigrants into SA, particularly retirees and that the white population is the only group that has actually grown in the last few years despite the perceived mass emigration of skilled white people. Expect a PM as I find this to be a very interesting topic.

South Africa quicktime presentation
« Reply #23 on: May 31, 2011, 11:45:52 am »
Here is a quicktime of SA. Its short and sweet, but its there to guide your speaking, not to rely on as a source of information. Support this with other media and you'll have fun :).

The pics of music are hyperlinked to youtube videos.

You need quicktime to run this. Itll work perfectly on any windows machine with quicktime. Just unzip the file first.

Hey

Sorry I'm late on this one, but for future reference I think Zulu is the most spoken language in our country according to the following sources.

See the table>>   http://www.southafrica.info/about/people/language.htm

And this one>>    http://www.sa-venues.com/sa_languages_and_culture.htm

I hope it helps (even us South Africans)  8)

Thank you for the awesome ppts- I'm using them next semester to focus on cultural lessons.

Yip... Zulu is the most widely spoke home language in South Africa whereas English is the most widely understood (greatest amount of 2nd, 3rd, 4th language speakers etc.)

Hi There

I am a south african expat in Canada looking to teach my students about my home country.  I was just about to start my own powerpoint, and was wondering if I might see yours for ideas.  Are you willing to share the attachment?

Thanks for your help!

South Africa: Paradise-Coldplay
« Reply #36 on: March 06, 2012, 03:41:10 pm »
Hey Saffers (or anyone doing a lesson on SA),
I came across the music video for Coldplay's song "Paradise" last year, which was shot in South Africa (bar the short bit at the beginning in London).
I am using it as part of my welcome and introduction class. It's a really cool video to teach the kids with, includes some awesome shots of SA and is a really sweet story. It has been a SMASH hit.
I show the video and let them enjoy, then give them the short worksheet, go through the questions, let them watch the video again and then give them some time to fill in the answers. This worksheet is designed for my Middle School 1st graders, but you could change the worksheet depending on your students abilities or use a different activity all together.

All I can say is that it works phenomenally and I highly recommend it.
