I teach elementary, so all throwing is at.  Doubly so when boys have the ball.

Haha, yeah, that's why I never, EVER play pass the ball in class.

To bring this back on topic a bit, the security deposit for GEPIK is 900,000 won paid in installments of 300,000 won over the first three months. I'd forgotten about that part, and had a bit of panic myself when I looked at my bankbook. In general, you can expect your first few paycheques to be screwy, especially if your "handler" is working as head co-teacher for the first time. If you notice any more discrepancies or strangeness, just make sure you get all of the documentation (pay slips, bankbook records, etc.) and be polite and persistent but confused. Generally, in public school, no one's out to get you; they just don't necessarily know what's going on.

EPSK:
Chill son! The first 2 months will be a little rough on the money in the bank, mainly because they take out the 600,000  won deposit. Some schools take 300 out for the first 2 months, others take it all in one swoop. They will also take out about 80-90,000 for pension, 40-55,000 for medical insurance, some amount for lunch, and (depending on where you're from) taxes!

Also, you will never ever ever get 1.9mil in your bank account, just as you will never ever receive a full salary due to deductions and such. Also, you should get an entrance allowance (I think it's 1.3 mil? plus I think about 200,000 which is the settlement allowance). After the first 2 months, you can expect roughly 1.7 mil in your bank every month.

So as I understand it, they will take deposit from me regardless.

When is that safety/security deposit returned? Or is it sunk?

It's a deposit. Relax, friend. You get it back when you leave.
