I have a NH account here and a STD bank account in SA. Does anyone know the NH charges to transfer money?
Also someone in one of the other comment mentioned a universal bank code for your bank (not the SWIFT code) does anyone know if we need this for Standard bank?

Thanks for this information Chommies

I am a bit worried after my experience with KEB who made me close an account and open up another account just to get a debit card. I was with my co teacher who is young and we both found out aftewards that KEB did not have to do that but that they did that to gain comission off me opening up another account. Are they really as good with sending money home as everyone is making them out to be?

KEB only charges an 8000KRW fee for overseas transfers, and their internet banking service is really user friendly. Because you convert the won directly to Rands, you lose less money. Also, the BEST thing about KEB is that it is guaranteed that there will be at least one English-speaking clerk at every branch.
Their phone banking system is also great. If you get a little stuck with internet banking the first time, they can help you out.

I think that you should be able to trade Korean won for South African rand at a KEB.  Perhaps go there and tell them how much you would like to exchange in advance so if they do not have the currency in their reserves they can get some in.  I have been in there done money exchanges for many different countries before going on trips.  just give them a heads up and there should be no problem.

May look out though, during the last couple of weeks the value of the won has dropped drastically.  Just hit a 13month low against the dollar....

Just exchange at the airport on way out.  YOu are going to get hit with fees anyway you do it.

Hi fellow saffers :-*
Does anyone know the exact pricing to send money home using NH bank? I mean, is it a fixed price that stays the same irrespective of the amount you send or is it a percentage of the amount that you're sending? I'm just looking for the costs involved on this side.
Thanks!

I cant say with certainty that the price is always the same irrespective of the am mount, but for the last year that i have sent money home the cost was 30k. This was with different am mounts as well.

hey guys...Saffa here needing some banking advice!

so i've got a NH bank acc and want to send money back home. i've been told by many people that i should just get a KEB acc and transfer using them. but after some research i've realised it can be done with my NH acc too.

so my question is...is it better to just transfer funds using my NH acc (inside the bank ive read is better than using internet banking) or should i open a KEB acc for the transfers?

obviously the costs involved is one of the factors to consider (the cheaper one would be best) as well as ease of transfer, and whether i can just simply do it online.

any useful info would be much appreciated!

thanx  :D

I am with NH too and I was advised to open a KEB easy-one account. Whenever I want to send money home all I do is transfer the money to my KEB account and it is in my SA account within days, simple and cheap :D

on a side note keb has partnerships with banks around the world. In SA they are partnered with first rand. Therefore you can be are charged less depending on your domestic bank.

Just send the money home electronically. It's really not that expensive. And it is so much safer than carrying all that cash around. I recommend the Easy-One account from KEB.
