EPIK contract Article 14 (4) 8 hours accumulated

(1/1)

letsgoteacher:
Hi,

It looks like I'm going to reach my 8 hours of accumulated 'unpaid leave' bc of bank visits, hospital appointments etc, and my supervisor just told me this will come out of my 8 days summer vacation, rather than be taken off as a day's unpaid leave.

After scrutinising the contract I can't find anywhere that says either option.  NB I think they use 'Paid Leave' instead of 'Unpaid Leave' in mine.  I don't know where I got my info from, but am worried bc I'd rather lose a days pay than a precious days vacation, esp since it'll mean an extra day desk-cooling in the summer!

Has anyone else had a similar situation, or spoken about the "8 accumulated hours of Paid Leave shall be counted as one day." ?

Cheers for any insight.

I'm in a small school, so this is unheard of. I can take time off to send money, visit dentist etc just as the Korean teachers do without penalty. Some schools are so harsh!
All i can suggest is that if you do any overtime,  ask that instead of receiving overtime pay, get those hours worked to count towards getting those hours removed for 'unpaid leave'

Good luck!

At my school they always take that time out of my sick leave.  I would assume your hospital visits should be counted toward that at the very least.  I'd mention that to the school and see what they say about it.

I agree with the previous poster about sick leave. You're likely not going to use the sick leave anyway, and really, those types of trips are not affecting the school one bit. There's no reason to be losing vacation over it.

If they're going to be tight about the contract then "early leave for personal appointments" are part of vacation days, but dentist and doctor and health checks and stuff are sick leave.

Edit: added quotes for clarity.
