Here's a PPT to introduce the vocabulary for this unit (which I modified heavily from another user's PPT for the old book). There's also the "Pirate" game from another thread, modified only slightly to incorporate the vocabulary from this textbook. Finally, there's a game called "Crazy Crayons". I used a similar game last year with success -- each student gets a picture of a crayon and colours it in as crazy as possible (for some reason, the students LOVE the word 'crazy'). I colour in the big picture myself to use as an example for my "crazy crayon". Then I collect all the pictures and redistribute them to the students randomly. They have to walk around and find the owner of the picture by asking: "Is this your crayon?" and answering "Yes, it's mine." or "No, it's not mine."

Here is a story - Whose Dung Is This?
I usually use it with gr 5s, but it works for this lesson too. I print out the ppt, and the slides that ask "Is this yours?" and "No that's not mine" I give to random kids. As I'm reading the story, and their part is up, I ask them to stand up. When we finish the ppt story (and they get a good laugh), I ask the kids to come up and read their parts (so basically, read the story again). Me and my coteacher do the intro and end.

@Lisa, Thank you for the Pirate Game! But how do I go about editing the words that you click for the question. In my version power point they text option is greyed outT.T are they just images?

If so, does anyone know a quick method of just swapping the image without having to re apply the links and everything? Thank you!

Ive made a pass the bomb game for this class using a template from the megapack. delete the first two slides.

@ Here2Day --- I think the words are just images, so you can't edit them unless you delete them completely, make new ones and re-set the hyperlinks. As I mentioned, I just modified the original PPT very slightly to include the vocab from our book so I didn't actually choose the original words... but FYI, my students didn't have any problem understanding/reading the words that the OP used!

And the kids were able to handle this? I don't even think I am mature enough to handle it. There will be poop jokes all week long....come to think of it, I probably should use it.

Another pretty simple PowerPoint...but this one includes additional possessive pronouns (his/hers/ours/theirs/your), which the kids can pick up pretty quickly. There are a few tricks in there as well if you wanna give certain kids a little more difficult time.

I forgot to upload the Pass the bomb game to go with the lesson plan!! you can change the pictures if necessary altho i think the students will love these crazy pictures

make a big circle and get a ball or a chicken to pass about until the bomb timer runs out on the ppt and explodes on someone!!

also for a game I'm going to play a version of heads up seven up with a pencil cases or markers or small things. I'll chose 4-6 students to be "it" then have the rest put their heads down. The students who are it will go around and put the objects in the students whose heads are down hands. Once everyone is back to the front. Have all the students raise their heads and the students who have objects stand up and ask "__name___ is this your pencil?" Answer "no its not, yes it is." Whoever gets it right gets to be it and if they don't then the person who picked them gets to stay.

Here is a fairly short writing game best for Period 3. It uses more than just the 4 words they teach how to write, it also includes the other words from the chapter such as: umbrella, crayon, ruler, and eraser. So probably will need to show the spelling for those words too. The objective is that each team has a small whiteboard and when the picture flashes they have to write the word on the whiteboard (spelled correctly) and the first team gets 2 pts. second team gets 1 pt. Then the whole group has to read "Is this your notebook?" (or whatever the word) And then pass the whiteboard to the next person on the team, so everyone on the team has to write. Nothing too special, but its a way to get them to maybe have some fun writing,

This one is really simple as I only taught the students basic vocab today- I'm going to introduce possessives next class.

@Lisa_03: WOW!!! You're Pirate Game is AMAZING!!! My students absolutely loved it!! THANK YOU!!

I just made a FEW changes.. to where the students could lose more points (my kids LOVE seeing other teams lose points!). I just redid a few of the links and added minus points to some of the slides. I also added "pizza" from the "P" words in Lesson 4.1 and added some sounds when the points come up.

It is suitable for low level students.

This is about the game to practice key sentences.
In my case, when the music is stopped, the student who get the ball should
make a sentence. Rest of students should answer to the question.
I think the music makes students very excited~
