Personally, I never actually hang a man. The only constant when I'm teaching is 10 turns before you lose. Some ideas are to draw a rudimentary crocodile that "eats" the class, a UFO that "zap" the class, a scary face etc. Anything really. If you're not a good drawer, its possible to put 10 obscuring white panels over a scary/funny/cute/inspirational/demotivational picture from the internet in a powerpoint and have them vanish one at a time. Keeping the imagery fresh actually gets some kids TRYING to lose the game. For long words, it takes as much, and sometimes even greater thought and skill to cause a fail than a win, so this is not a bad thing.
Another point to bear in mind: In a certain neighbouring country, English teachers are now a media target because some kid's parents blamed an ALT using hangman as inspiring their child to hang themselves (seriously). The argument given was that this certain country had never even heard of hanging prior to English teachers arriving (yet mysteriously it's the most common ahem... method and has been for generations). I understand the argument on Dave's ESL, but ultimately, I'm going to favour politics over that little life lesson.
