Does the game work better in teams or with the whole class winning points together?

Sallyafc!  Wow, thank you so much.  I have tried to create a game to share with everyone, but my skills are not even a quarter of what is necessary to create this game!
Thank you so much for sharing with us!

Hi, just copy and paste your picture into the slide. Then if you want to include the answer, insert that in a text box and animate it to appear. Make sure that that anaimation is at the top of the animation list. Also make sure that you click "send to back" on the piture and text box. If it disseapers, click the background and click "send to back" with that. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any more problems. Also the questions only go on the top slides that are blank not the ones that are all different.

No artist, but its great! I see my kids liking this. I use hangman all the time and I get sick of using the stick figures.

Hilarious!

I suppose videos would be good for this too.  Find some action hero struggling to complete a goal, and play a little every time a students gets a question right/wrong.

Personally, I never actually hang a man. The only constant when I'm teaching is 10 turns before you lose. Some ideas are to draw a rudimentary crocodile that "eats" the class, a UFO that "zap" the class, a scary face etc. Anything really. If you're not a good drawer, its possible to put 10 obscuring white panels over a scary/funny/cute/inspirational/demotivational picture from the internet in a powerpoint and have them vanish one at a time. Keeping the imagery fresh actually gets some kids TRYING to lose the game. For long words, it takes as much, and sometimes even greater thought and skill to cause a fail than a win, so this is not a bad thing.

Another point to bear in mind: In a certain neighbouring country, English teachers are now a media target because some kid's parents blamed an ALT using hangman as inspiring their child to hang themselves (seriously). The argument given was that this certain country had never even heard of hanging prior to English teachers arriving (yet mysteriously it's the most common ahem... method and has been for generations). I understand the argument on Dave's ESL, but ultimately, I'm going to favour politics over that little life lesson.

Hangman, word shark, whatever you want to call it, it's still a waste of time. Maybe it's ok for low level elementary students or for teaching the alphabet. But for anyone else it is a waste of time. You spend at least 5 - 10 minutes only to "guess" one vocabulary word. Kids love it because it's easy and they know it's a waste of time. There are much better games out there that can challenge students and teach them more.

Yes, I agree with everyone else. This is an awesome game.

One question: In some of the versions, there is a role-play part with a goomba but I can't figure out how much points the students get if they do it correctly -- it just takes me to another part of the game. Ideas?

Also, it doesn't have to be only letter/word guessing. These types of games can be used to review the lesson by asking questions. Tell them to close their books, and then ask "How do you go to school" or "Please spell: school bus".

I like the shark idea... I use it too by drawing a picture of myself attached to 6 balloons (labelled 1-6). They can roll a dice if they get the question right and that # of balloon will pop and I'll be one step closer to getting eaten by the shark. They can't pop the same balloon twice.. so they get really frustrated if they keep rolling the same number :)

That's a fun game.

I hope you don't mind a little advice; I would put more of the actions as 'Start: After Previous'.  It'll mean less clicks and a little more fluency.
