i read these out loud to my korean boyfriend and he made the funniest face (like "those are soooo lame") LOL but i loved all of them! thank you to everyone who shared! i'm definitely going to use this with my students.

What kind of money do people use in Australia? 호주 머니. (Hoju money. Hoju money means pocket money in Korean, and Hoju also means Australia.)

I used the 소새죄 one with my 4th graders today and a few of them figured it out on their own! Smart kids... Or perhaps just that they are still only able to think in Korean. Either way, they seemed to like it. Thanks for the suggestion :-)

I frequently tell horribly sarcastic jokes to my students, but none of them ever get them. But they are really dumb

I always make cornball jokes. For example I show my students a cell phone and ask.

Q: 'What do you call a cellphone in Korea?'
A: Handphone
Next I place it on the desk and ask
Q: 'What do you call it now?"
A: Deskphone

I don't tell them jokes - they're too thick to understand them but they do groan and laugh a bit when I give them a riddle or puzzle which has a silly answer.

This one is a little time-dependent. I said it after the royal wedding a couple weeks ago.

Q: The royal wedding was last week. It was beautiful, but she became sick the next day. What did she have?
A: Gong-ju-byeong (공주병) - it's a Korean phrase that means "princess disease"

Most co-teachers and students groaned. But I know they secretly liked it...

I do two or three pirate jokes that revolve around the Aaarrgh. Favorite animal Aardvark. Favorite state Arkansas..... Like this joke and then I ask my favorite one. The kids should think it's easy (but it's not).

(Me) What is a pirates favorite letter in the alphabet?

(all students)- Aaarrgh!

(Me) You'd think Aargh! But it actually be the "C".

Higher level students obviously. I have had some of my students (and other teachers) pissing themselves.
