This is called the "Clap Game" developed by Jacob Boer of Gwangju MOE. It was made known to me by the creator at an EPiK orientation in March 2011.
How to Play: Some kind of order is determined for the class. (i.e. Down each row, then back to the front). Each student reads one word and then the following student reads the following word, etc. If a symbol appears over a word, the student must preform the appropriate action.
Kids seemed to enjoy the game.
EDIT 2011/04/19:
I have added another game created by Jacob Boer adapted for this lesson.
It is called "Dice Game." It reviews the key terms for the last chapter (family) as well. WRITING Activity.
How to play: Have each student create a single sentence by choosing one phrase from each column (Who, What, When). When everyone has written their sentence, have everyone stand up. Roll a dice for column one, if the student used the corresponding phrase as part of their sentence, they must sit down. Roll dice for column two, and three, etc. Last one standing wins!
