That Holly Dolly video is so cute! Awesome!
This is what I'm planning on doing for lesson 1 of this chapter:
1. Show Holly Dolly or Elmo video (used that in the How Are You? chapters also and it was a hit)
2. Introduce new words using actions. (Recently I've really been trying to get the kids up and active while learning like TPR/WBT methods). Then test them by saying one action (ie: "Happy!") but making a sad face. They have to say the way I look, not follow what I say.
Then intro the key question and answer and have them practice asking and answering thru speed quiz (just get a timer and how many q&a's they can do in 20s is how many points their team gets. OR with a timer that counts up, check how long it takes each team to say all q&a's.
3. Whatever book stuff my co wants (she leads this part)
4. Corners. Post the words/pictures in different corners of the room. Play the Holly Dolly song and the kids run around (like 10s). When the music stops they should have chosen a corner. Then the teacher says one sentence like "Are you happy?" (you've been hiding your eyes so you can't see who is in which place) and the kids who are at that card have to say "Yes, I am!" then the other kids say "No, I'm not. I'm __ (whatever card they are at). Repeat until you have a winner. Then you can elect a new person to call out the questions.
Hope that's helpful!
