YBM grade 3 lesson 3 Are you happy
« Reply #40 on: April 20, 2011, 02:47:08 pm »
This is an activity for grade 3 about feelings.
Have students complete the faces. Then have them cut out and play 'one card game'.
One card game goes like this; Each team mixes up all the cards of theirs. Each one gets 3 or 4 cards and the left cards go to the center. The students take turns to put down one card and say the sentence. If the others have the same, they can put them down. The one who has only one card left is the winner.

FYI, I got the pictures from www.kizclub.com.

YBM: Grade 3: Lesson 3 'How Are You?'
« Reply #41 on: April 20, 2011, 02:49:57 pm »
Here is a powerpoint for the first period.

I'm going to do Look and Listen in the book. Then go over the key words and then practice with the slam game. I will have them play this game in groups of 4-5 but it works well in pairs as well. I give each team a set of emotion cards. They all have to put their hands on their heads. I then say an emotion "I'm happy!' and the students have to slam their hand on the right card. Then I'm going to go over the key phrases and then play a game of charades. Students have to use a whole sentence to win points ie: 'Are you sick?' 'Yes I am/ No I'm not'.

Hope this is useful!

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I'm putting it in this section. Pls move if there's a better place for it!

After Ch 3 there's a bit of a review section, so I re-vamped an old review ppt using bits and pieces of others to use at the end of lesson 3. I know I forget so much Korean no matter how much I study, so I figure the kids maybe do too?! (But they do have the advantage of youth!)

My co teacher and I came up with a great game yesterday that worked great today. We went over flashcards with emotions (happy, sad, excited, angry, scared and sick) and practised questions and answers 'Are you ....? Yes I am No I'm not.

We split the class into 4 groups. One student from one group came to the front. We secretly showed them a flashcard with an emotion on it. Then blindfolded them and they had to draw a face with the emotion on the board. The kids found it hysterical. Their group had to ask the relevant question 'are you ....?' and the drawer should reply yes I am or No I'm not to get a point.

Then we got students from 2 different groups to the front and showed them 2 different emotions (different for each team too) and had them race against each other. The 1st group to ask/answer the right questions would win the round. Then went to 3 different emotions but it got a bit hard.

I hope this helps someone! It could always be used for the review chapter if you're short for 10/15 minutes at the end

Emotion Go Fish:
I did this lesson last week. I used 8 emotion cards: ie Sad: drawing of a sad girl and the word sad on it. I printed them off on cardstock and made 15 sets of cards (8x2=16 in each deck).  I had the students practice first, I demonstrated with my co-teacher on how to play the game using super sized cards and magnets, flipped over on the blackboard.  Each student chooses 3 cards and asks if their partner has the matching card by saying "___  are you sad?"  The response is yes or no depending on if the 2nd person has the card or not.  " Yes, I do."  or "No, I don't. Go fishing!"  Whoever has the most pairs at the end of the game wins.  Usually it ends up tied, 8 and 8.  If they run out or cards, they keep playing until all of the cards are gone.

Here are some simple Studio Ghibli PPTs  i made for emotions. One of the Powerpoints was made to be used with the busy beavers How are you song (can be found on youtube). They were pretty popular with my students, especially the angry bird slide. I get sick of the same responses "Im fine and you" so i really drilled them hard with these different expressions.

Hi.

I used this game when teaching lesson 1 of Unit 3.

Heads Up 7.  Basically 7 students pick seven sentences or questions.  Are you okay? I'm happy, etc.  Then, seven students come to the front of the class. Everyone else sits down with their heads down and thumbs up.  If one of the seven "it" students touches another students thumb they must guess who it was by saying the corresponding question or sentence.

The ppt explains how to play!~~
