Do we have to post 5 new posts or do our existing ones count?

Why is everyone nagging about donations all of a sudden? Is this site suddenly being run for profit? Surely the whole point of this is a place for everyone to post lesson plans and help each other out, thats all?

It looks like existing ones count as you have been declared lesson plan worthy with 11 posts.

A small fee would be profitable and possibly increase the quality of the lesson plans people submit.  But it also encourages a new site for people to freely share lessons, and the potential ad revenue wouldn't be that bad if done right... ;)

Tried to lay down $10.  It wouldn't accept my credit card.  Not sure why

I think that donating is very important and I understand why the actions have been taken. Running and maintaining a website can get very expensive, especially when you need room to put files. I have recently also begun asking for donations through my website to host the files I have created because it is not free to keep all of the files online. Nothing in life is free, somewhere someone is paying the cost. I believe if you use Waygook, a small donation would not hurt ~~

It's ironic that my main source of lesson plans goes down on the day I need to make 2 lessons to use...that day. I need you guys! That said, I want to donate. My problem, like others, is that I have no Korean credit card or Pay Pal. Is it possible for there to be bank transfer donations? I'd gladly pay the 10 bucks, even more.

I have just opened my yearly donation
I think it is worth it sadly I am not computer savvy like the young ones on waygook
so  I find it hard to contribute lesson wise
I would like to have an opportunity to contribute more if possible due to the fact
of being comp literate
This sight is a godsend as far as lessons and games go
so as the writer above said DONATE.

Probably because running websites like this cost money. The owners have to pay for things like bandwidth. 20TB is a huge amount of traffic, so I really doubt donations are going to line someone's pockets.

I personally haven't donated because the only way I can is to transfer money from my Korean account. If that option's ever available, I'll send some money along.

@Siamagoo: The only "big change" I've seen is the five post requirement. Is it really that difficult to share your opinion on something on waygook.org's various forums five times? How would that prevent new teachers from accessing downloads so much that it would hurt them? If you read the FAQ thread created by a mod closely, you'll notice that there is no requirement for each of the five to include uploaded powerpoints. You just can't post a single smiley or useless things like, "Yeah, me too." though I have been seeing more and more of the latter. XP

@Brit_1: I don't think anyone's really nagging about donations. Just that some people who don't post much to waygook would rather support it with a single monetary deposit than figuring out posting and all that jazz.

@korr: My issue with donating is the same as yours.

Just my two cents worth but I think this is a great site
How are your two cents related to this thread topic? There must be threads in the forums where you can add a stronger opinion than this.

Before you create a thread, remember waygook.org has a search engine! Please help keep the redundancy down. Do a little research of your own before making a thread in case the information is already available.

I would love to donate but I hate using my credit card. Do you have an account in Korea that I can transfer some funds over?

Maybe the site should keep track on the amount of data is downloaded in each account. Also, keeping track of IP addresses would prevent people from making multiple accounts where there previous one is banned,

I think the donation is very reasonable considering how good this site is. Well worth it.

I'd like to see it as having the option to either pay or to contribute. I think the 5 post minimum is too easy on people - I've noticed a lot of long-time members have suddenly started posting for the first time today. To make 5 comments is nothing - they should at least be "useful" - like lesson plans or advice, even something humerous to lighten your day.

Maybe posts could have one of those review buttons asking "was this post useful: yes / no,"  with a minimum number of "yes's" required for a free membership ?

Just a thought I'm throwing out there.

First, it's a problem with bandwith. The people running the site aren't trying to make any money. People are downloading an amazing amount of stuff.

Second, the reason I don't donate is because waygook.org needs a Korean account! I have serious problems using paypal with my Visa debit card. I tried and I failed :(. Anyway, everytime I am here I click on one of the ads to make up for it. I hope that helps.

Hey Brian (or anyone else that matters) Please set up a Korean account! Just my 2 cents.

I have no problem with any of this, either paying or being a more active contributor. I have been in Korea teaching for 6 months with no previous experience and I know I have relied a lot on this site.

Thanks!

I don't own a credit card. Lost it while here in Korea and cancelled it. There were too many hoops to jump through to get another one sent from home and at the time Korean banks were less than welcoming to foreigners getting CCs.

I may need to use some of my hard earned "beer money" and see if I can bribe someone into donating for me  ::)
