I'll venture a guess - someone who's not very fond of a few mods at a certain commercial site dealing with teaching in Korea has been informing its members of this much better non-commercial site where members aren't treated like delinquent children and where you can download heaps of free, sometimes very useful, stuff. This has resulted in a number of people not familiar with such a feature downloading all sorts of random stuff out of curiosity.

Shut the site down for a week. Scare people. Maybe they'll start donating after that! Might be a good idea, huh? I think people are far too reliant on this website and they don't give enough back (the majority probably nothing whatsoever). I love it here as much as anybody, but I think it wouldn't hurt if people had to make do on their own for a short time. Then maybe they'll see the importance Waygook really has to them.

Btw, why does the donate thing say that it ends October 31st?

What happened to the website?

The only option is to pay through Pay pal. i do not have a paypal account and am not sure how to get one or whether I want one either, I have only got a VISA. Is there any other way to pay!!!???

Paypay doesn't even exist in NZ so I cannot access this site or pay, even though I want to. Please help!!!! Is it possible to set up another system of payment? Paypal is incredibly limiting.

Is it really that hard to find 5 topics on this enormous site to helpfully contribute to? For example, I saw a free cat thread with a ton of, "What a cute kitty! Sorry, I can't take him in though" posts. I'm sure the OP highly appreciated those wastes of space.

Waygook is a great place for ideas and lessons, but its not the ONLY ESL resource on the internet...
even our books from orientation had pages of ESL websites...

Er... Worst case scenario: make one yourself? If you need ideas or inspiration, a simple google search about your lesson topic + "lesson plan" or "esl" will give you tons of other resources too. A favorite of mine you've probably heard of already is bogglesworth. Lots of NSETS in Korea also have blogs where they post their own material as well.

bogglesworth is kinda ok.

Waygook.org has contributors working with E-1 through university. It is kind of unique in that regard.

I do like the idea of a like button, whereby a user would receive say 10 downloads per like for their contribution - be it a comment or lesson plan or whatever. Personally, I prefer contributing with ideas rather than finances, but then I don't use others' lessons very often at all.

I am also a newbie to this site and I must say that it is a great resource and there is some great work on here. Thank you so much to everyone on the site.

I would also be more than happy to make a contribution to the site both in a donation and with uploads. Uploads seem easy enough to do, I think, I still have to see if I successfully uploaded files, but I would also like to be able to make a donation via my Korean bank account.

I definitely have no problem donating some money. Like many have said on here I don't have a credit card but I am in the process of setting up a paypal account attached to my Canadian bank account (for other reasons not just this) and once that is done then will gladly give some money. I think this website is a great resource and I often get some good ideas from here that then expand or change to make own. Rarely do I take a lesson or powerpoint straight from here to my classroom, and I believe that is how the site should be used. A place to exchange ideas but the teacher should still be doing the work to modify the ideas to fit their students. Anyway I will happily post money when I can and until then I will continue to click on ads everytime that I log in.

This website has totally saved my arse several times when things I had planned totally bombed.
I would be glad to give you my money as it's well worth it, but I don't have a paypal account nor a Korean credit card.
