Scattebingo!
« on: August 29, 2011, 02:32:29 PM »
my girlfriend actually gave me the idea for this after she played it with her friends, but i made it into a ppt.
its a mixture of scattegories and bingo.
i used this with MS.gr3 because they should have the most vocab

students make their own bingo boards based on 5 categories you give them  (they'll have to write 25 words in total per round)

give them a few minutes to fill in their sheets with whatever answers they can think of (i put them in groups incase they didnt know enough words)

the teacher starts by saying a common word he/she saw while making his rounds while the students were filling out their sheets

the first group to stand and say "we have it!" (may be replaced with any phrase) can circle their answer and  will get the next turn to say another word on their sheet to the class (trying to make a bingo).

again, the first team to stand and say "we have it!" may circle their word and pick the next word.
if nobody has the word that was said, the original team can circle their own word and go again.

encourage students to think about common as well as uncommon answers.

worked pretty well for a welcome back class

feel free to change the categories or whatever you like. i usually start my class with a riddle and a picture puzzle to get their attention so i just left those in.

Hey S. Lee,
Did you print off the bingo boards and laminate them, or just make paper copies? Just wondering what worked for you.
