a lesson I made about 'food from around the world'.
if the lesson seems a bit short it's because i spend the first 5 minutes or so sorting out their homework that i set them
Lesson PlanUnscramble the words warm up (for higher level, you can remove the 'hints') -
7 minutes 'Which country's flag is this?' - introduces them to demonyms. I usually get the co-teacher to quickly explain why the demonym is used.
I also throw in a little joke about the 'South Korea' one

They get a bit confused and whatever they answer (A, B, C, or 'all three') you click A and it always gets a laugh -
8-10 minutesThen I introduce to them some food from around the world. They know most of them but the point is to get them to use the demonym -
5 minutesThe Rock, Paper, Scissors gameSimple but effective game to get them to memorise any conversation form that I use maybe twice a semester.
Eight volunteers split into two teams (I tend to try and balance it so it's four students per 'half of the class' so the students not participating have a 'team' to root for).
They take it in turns to play 'rock, paper, scissor' and the loser is OUT. But not before they answer the question they're set. If they get it wrong, then question is carried over to the next person on the team and if they get it wrong then THEY are out too. So one question could potentially wipe out the entire team. If they're right, then only that one student is out and so 'saves' his other team members from getting the same question.
The winner gets to choose which demonym they put into the 'Customer's' part and therefore they can make it either easy or hard. For example, choosing 'traditional
German food' is hard because it's a food they are unfamiliar with.
(Winner) Customer: I would like some traditional ___________ food.
(Loser) Waiter: How about ____________________?
(Winner) Customer: _____________? OK, I’ll try that.
However long you want to play it for. I usually play for 10-15 minutes/3 gamesLet me know how it goes
