All About Me
« on: April 11, 2011, 11:58:28 am »
I used this to supplement a lesson from English Land Level 4.  Key vocabulary: trees, waterfall, houses, wigwams, river, canoe, ship, castle, city, country, skyscrapers, streets, etc.

Key phrases: There is/are _________________ in the city/country.
Where do you live?
I live in the _____________.
Is there _________ in the city/country?
Are there ________ in the city/country.
Yes there is/are.
No, there isn't/ aren't.

Students can then make their own comics.  Sorry, the image might be a little blurry.

Hello.  I thought this was a good starter for my elementary students last year.  We used this for the first day.  Lesson plan is included.  Enjoy!

Good lesson for first day of after school as well.

Have S's bring in a passport-sized picture first and have them do a 'Me' Star:

Draw a star on a piece of paper.  Have S's glue their picture in the center of the star.  Have them write sentences about themselves around the points of the star.  Give them hints for the types of sentences they could write:  I have __ members in my family,  I like to ______, I dislike _______, I'd like to ______ one day,   Everyone thinks I'm ____ and so on.

Paper ball or airpane activity:

Have S's write 2 sentences about themselves on a piece paper which they crumble up or make an airplane out of.  They toss the paper around for a few seconds and each S picks one up.  Battle boys against girls, etc. to see which team get the more correct guesses.

In regards to sumer and winter camps. Should they be more challenging than regular class sessions?

I love the "me star" idea. I'm definitely going to use it. Good activity to start off with and it'll help me remember names. Thank you :)

Great idea! The "Me" Star will allow for students to think about themselves with some creativity! I also really like the idea of having boys vs girls! This will help the two gender to interact!

My plan for the first week of camp is to have students create "All About Me" stories. They would draw and write simple sentences and record a voice over each day. In the end, they would all have picture book movie about themselves.

Google Photo Story 3. Below is a link to Photo Story

Likes and Dislikes Lesson
« Reply #8 on: December 25, 2011, 04:17:16 pm »
I have created/modified the following materials for part of the "getting to know you" portion of Day 1 during Winter Camp. I made these with low-level 3rd/4th graders in mind. I will have them make "about me" posters and also discuss likes and dislikes amongst each other and with a skype penpal. The bomb game just practices the key expressions "I like _______" "I don't like ______" and "What do you like to do?"
