I went down to use the ATM at the nearest Nonghyup branch here in Gokseong, and when I got there I found the doors locked and a note tacked up reading "전산장애중", which I roughly translated to "computer/system malfunction". I went down to the main branch a few blocks away only to find them locked up as well, albeit without the note this time. I was wondering if any other Nonghyup users out there have had any issues today? (locked-up ATMs, inaccessible accounts, etc.) I'm wondering if it's just something affecting the branches in my town of it's some kind of glitch at HQ affecting the whole country.

Yes. My wife tried to use the ATM with no luck. We were going to try again later this evening, but probably not after reading this post...

I don't know about the ATM machines but I used my NH bank card for direct purchases numerous times today, including this evening, without any problems. Oh and I live in Daejeon.

Nonhyup's system is currently completely down.

My bf couldn't use his card this evening (worked fine earlier today) so he had a Korean call the bank. Their whole system is down apparently---can't use our cards at ATMs, stores, restaurants etc. We are in Seoul btw. They said to call back tomorrow with updates.

Ekk! A whole bank system down?! Insane!

Others please update if your cards start working again.....

I'm a Korean and I've just checked out internet news about malfunction of Nonghyup..Yes..all banking system is shut down and hasn't been fixed up yet until 7'30 p.m . They are trying to fix it up and expect get it bcak soon but didn't tell when it can be done exactly..

So it is down... here's the pop-up notification from the Nonghyup website:

"전산시스템 장애로 금융거래가 되지 않고 있습니다.

현재 복구에 최선을 다하고 있으며

빠른 시간 내에 정상 조치토록 하겠습니다.

고객 여러분께 불편을 드려 죄송합니다."

Rough translation:
"Due to a computer system failure, financial transactions are unavailable. We are currently committed to recovery, and transactions will be back to normal shortly. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience."

Same here. I tried doing a bank transfer because I ordered something off Gmarket so I used my Daegu Bank card to transfer the fees after school around 5 pm and just 30 mins ago but no luck. Suffice it so say, I live in Daegu.

Wish I would have seen this earlier. With no food in the fridge, went to Emart to go shopping. Didn't have any cash on me. Had already bagged all the groceries when the checkout lady said the debit wasn't going through. Had to unpack all the food and leave empty-handed with everyone watching. What up, Nong hyup?

Have the same problem. My Check Card doesn't work either. My friend has an NH card that still works. Go figure.

Grr, Nonghyup... Tried doing online banking to do some transfers tonight, no such luck. That was around 8:40... their website still has the message posted earlier. I live in Hoengseong, Gangwon-do. Probably the whole country wide system is down.

This would explain the cashier not accepting my card at the grocery store. I'm glad I had the cash on hand or that would have been pretty embarrassing . Thanks for the info! Hopefully everything will be sorted out soon.

I tried to use my card around 9 pm at an ATM and no luck. Then, around 10:20, my co-teacher informed me the system was still shut down. Hopefully this gets fixed ASAP because payday is coming up soon......how does an ENTIRE banking system shut down!?!?!?!? I have never heard of something like this happening before......

apparently there was an error in a program and so all services have been shut down since 5:05pm. it is still not working but they hope to get it going by the 13th ... >_<

They're trying to get the problem sorted by today.. is what they say on the news

Or at least the deposit/withdrawal over the counter by 9am (the opening hour).
Thing is, they don't even know what caused the shutdown. They say it's not a result of hacking and I hope that's true D:

I have 1000won in my wallet...and 2 NH accounts..

Going to open KEB account tomorrow...time to follow the path of koreans..they have
an account with at least 3 different banks each!

I tried to use my check card at 711 this morning and no luck. i figured that i wouldn't be able to get into the ATM if that was the problem, but it's good to know it should be back up later today
