I would like to share a link to a Reading Rainbow episode "Bread is For Eating." In the beginning of the episode, different children talk about their favorite bread. I'm going to use that clip for my class. There are over 100+ Reading Rainbow episodes available.

Good activity If your school has a bin of plastic fruit. Hide them around the classroom--some obvious and some extremely difficult to spot (I put a slice of cheese slightly hanging out of the ceiling a/c).

Students must use the following dialog:

Student: I'm hungry/I'm thirsty. Can I have a/some ___?
Teacher: Sure. Where's the ___? (students point out food/drink or say 'Over there') (pretend to retrieve) Here you go.
Student: Thanks.
Teacher: You're welcome.

Warning: it took me a few mins. to figure out where I put a strawberry)
Could easily be adapted or made into a game.

Hi all. In this ppt, each slide has several random pictures, and the students must guess the sentence. My kids had a lot of fun with it. Enjoy!

Here is a PPT to introduce some key words and expressions at the beginning of the lesson, along with a dialogue that calls for students to replace certain words with new words that they learned.

The implication here is on whether you have the physical capacity or mental acuity to get the piano lifted. "May" is used when you are asking permission, "May I lift your piano for a little exercise?" Here you wish the permission of someone to carry out an action."

Agreed. I think its ok to teach because its used in common speech. I do plan on teaching the difference between the two however.

This worksheet is an adapted worksheet. It is an introduction worksheet for Lesson 6 - Period 1 - "Can I Have Some Water?"

It includes a list of vocabulary for the chapter, the look and listen dialogue as a gap fill exercise, and the listen and repeat dialogue for the students own review with some pictures of food at the bottom to point to.

I am uploading as a .doc attachment. If you have any suggestion for improvement, let me know.

I'm going to use the food cards in the back of the book plus add 'fried rice' since it's in the book and we will cover it as a vocab term in the lesson 'fry' vs 'fried' etc.

Many of you may have played this game before, called BANG!, which I haven't, but think will be a success. To play you will need the food cards (I asked the Korean English teachers to have the students rip them out before the class so we wouldn't waste time ripping them out in class), plus some BANG cards, attached below (I had 3 BANG cards per group.) If you have enough extra cards, I recommend changing the BANG card to fit into the same shape as the food cards, and then glue it on top, so the kids won't know the difference.
If you haven't played, here's how it goes: (I'm playing with whole groups and using about 5 page's worth of food cards, plus 3 BANG and 3 fried rice cards added.) Put the cards in a basket in the center, so each student can reach it. The first person chooses a card and asks the group : "Can I have some/a -----?"(and keeps that card). The students can respond honestly, as long as they try to say 'yes, go ahead/ no, sorry.' Then the next person goes, etc etc. When someone pulls a BANG card, all the students lose their cards and put them back into the basket EXCEPT the BANG card. After all the BANG cards have been found, the person with the most cards, wins.

I plan on trying this out next week:

M&M Spoon Race
4 students per group.
1 = empty cup holder
1 = blindfolded m&m carrier
2 = direction givers
Have the cup holding student stand in the back of the classroom. He must ask "Can I have some m&m's?"
At the front of the room are the other 3 students. The blindfolded student must be verbally directed by the other two students to the cup holding student in the back and drop the m&m's in the cup.
Use a timer to keep track of the fastest team.
If they drop (or eat) any m&m's, it's +1 second on the timer.

This ppt file is about the song "Can I have some water" in 6G L6 P2.

I think it is ridonkulous that kids have to read (and sing) before they actually learn reading in P3, so I focused on listening and speaking(singing) only.

I mixed the original song and the instrumental one, and made the Listen&Repeat stuff.

Here's a ridiculously complicated explanation of how to play "Go Fish" with the cards in the book. I've figured out how to make things follow paths! That is exciting.

I've also attached a lyric sheet for the icnelly song "Can I Have Some Water?" linked to on page 1 of this thread.

1st File: Straight forward jeopardy game. I play it where the kids actually do lose points when they guess a wrong answer, and the questions get more difficult as they become worth more. Slides with a gold bar are bonus slides, so click on the slide again before returning home to reveal the bonus.

2st File: O-Mok game with pictures. Pretty straight forward for anyone familiar with the game. Quick synopsis: pair game, one student is X, one is O. (Like large scale tic-tactoe). Five in a row wins. Star squares are action squares.

These things drive me nuts. Also the strange wording in the Storytime segments. I teach them: May I have some water, PLEASE?
