Here's a nice PPT that I'd like to share with the waygookers who teach the 6th graders!

Hope you have fun.

SERIOUSLY, I came to this lesson not expecting much to be available for this lesson but there is SO much!  I just wanted to sincerely thank everyone for their contributions.  All the games, and PPT's could not be anymore helpful to me.  Again, thanks so much everyone.  :-*

Here's a game my co-teacher and I have had great success with. It's a variation on the old "Whisper Relay Game". First, print up expressions and idioms introduced in this chapter, on about 25-30 A4 pieces of paper (if you are like me and concerned about the environment, use A4 white boards - they can be reused). On the back, place points, or rules (switch points with a team, lose all your points, etc). Now, play the whisper relay game. The last student must run up to the front of the classroom and slap the correct sentence. After, they can turn over the paper.

If you want to make it even more interesting, have the team decide, before turning over the paper, if they want to keep the reward/punishment or to pass it on. In essence, they might give away five points, or a "lose all your points" card.

...the idiom powerpoint. It's nothing special, but it's helpful for Ch.6 P.1

Chanti29, I really like how you have expanded this singing activity. All my students groan whenever they have to do the book songs, so I think your idea is a good replacement. Maybe I'm just challenged when it comes to computers, but where is the hand-out attachment you made? I would like to use it for my 6th graders this week but can't seem to find it. Thanks again for the great expansion idea.

Here is the latest in the Richard and Mike series. This video, taking place on Richard's birthday, blurs the lines between bad fiction and reality!

RE: pass the paper game
I wasn't sure what song to use for this game, but I found Weird Al's "just eat it" which I think will be perfect.

The video isn't appropriate but its not necessary as you will have a ppt to show the students.

Enjoy!

Is anyone else concerned? Grade 6, lesson 6
« Reply #52 on: May 20, 2011, 03:53:29 PM »
" Can I have some water"  should be "May I have some water".

Or am I crazy?

"We use "can" to indicate capability or possibility, e.g. "I don't know if I can lift this piano by myself." The implication here is on whether you have the physical capacity or mental acuity to get the piano lifted. "May" is used when you are asking permission, "May I lift your piano for a little exercise?" Here you wish the permission of someone to carry out an action."

Apologies if someone else has already brought this up.

in the States, I hear people use both can/may. Personally, I teach my students to say 'may' since it sounds more polite.

Attached is a land game. I didn't have clear A4 paper files, so I used lamination 'paper'-but I didn't laminate it for future purposes. If the flicker goes off boundaries-it's a miss turn. Other directions are stated. Change the pictures as you like.

I used this for 2nd period, but it's good for 3rd as well.

-edit-> made Omok for 3rd period to focus on reading. It's rather easy. Just state the words and make your mark to get 5 in a row.

Here is a PPT to practice the key vocabulary words. It's theme is taken from Shin Chan/ 짱구, so I'm sure the kids will find it to be entertaining^^ Just a heads up, the theme song plays when the last slide is shown.
