But on Monday, more than two dozen packages containing stacks of 50,000-won bills (roughly $46) were discovered at garlic fields near Gimje,160 miles southwest of Seoul. According to one report, another $5 million might be unaccounted for – all of it, say police, believed to have been earned from illegal online gambling.
What impressed me was that the criminal genius who managed to make all the money was stupid enough to bury it in a place where PEOPLE DIG EVERY YEAR. Seriously, what was this guy thinking? "Oh, a field, no one will ever think to dig a hole here."

The article goes on to talk about a debate about the merits of the 50,000 won note. I personally hate them because I know I've passed off at least one as a 5,000 won note, and kind taxi drivers have caught me trying to do the same a couple of times. As far as them encouraging illegal activity...meh. Gangsters will find a way.

That's a funny story. I don't get what's so bad about the $50 bill though. the US has a $100 bill, adnd Europe even has a 500 euro bill. Big deal. I hate having to carry a ton of man wons when I go out for the evening. If you confuse a 5000 for a 50000, that's your fault. In the US all our money is the same size and color - talk about confusing!

The guy owned that land.  He bought the farm as a means of hiding the cash, so it was more of an ex-garlic farm.  It's not like he just buried the cash in some random field.
