Here is an intro worksheet, it's good for helping the class understand key expressions and vocab words. Also, here is a typhoon game and the chipmunks singing happy birthday.

A ppt game with birthday cakes. Students have to ask "How old are you?" and then count the number of candles before the picture disappears.

this may be a bit lame but I want to put my five posts in!

when I taught this chapter, I got a box with a lid (a printer paper box--thanks Mi-jin!!!) and we followed the CD video clip. In it, Gina has a birthday and everyone gathers around her. they hand her a box and she says is it a doll? no it isn't, open it! she says wow its a robot.

I told the kids to shut their eyes (we just studied that in the previous chapter!) and I took something from the room and put it in the box. I handed the box to a student and said Happy Birthday, this is for you! and the student said, what is it? is it a doll? I said, no it isn't, open it. the kids all crowded around to see the eraser or whatever old thing I had in the box. They loved it! We built some new vocabulary at the same time. they either said, wow its an eraser, or they waited for me to identify the item and then repeated the sentence. I think my KT liked it too! she's old school grandmother and doesn't seem to appreciate my more uh "mobile" games!

A simple FOUR CORNERS game that the students really enjoy. Just print the last four slides from the PPT and tape each in one of the four corners of the room. Have the students sing, the Happy Birthday song as they choose which corner they wish. When everyone is at a corner have them say, "Happy Birthday, this is for you. What is it? It's a _______" If they are at the corner that matches the slide that appears, they must sit down. The last student standing is the winner.

How old are you - A guessing/practice presentation using the structures "How old are you?" and "I'm ________". Ages 1-10.

This is for you - Teaches the following script with a few different items. The students can then do a role play with their choice of classroom items.

A:Happy birthday! This is for you.
B:What’s this?
A:It’s a _________.
B: Thank you.
A: You’re welcome.

To practice the expressions in the first lesson "How old are you" & I'm___ years old" we will play the game Pass It with music (probably happy birthday song). One random object is passed while a number card is passed and when the music stops, the Ss holding the random object must ask "How old are you?" and the other must answer according to the # card. Simple but it gets the job done.

Lesson 4 part 1: Use the cards at the back of the book. The teacher shouts out all numbers and the students put them in that order. Teacher will start slow and then faster.

Every class, I usually write a simple dialogue for the students to present in front of the class. They love it! Do it every class and its something they look forward to.

I did this same thing and the kids loved it! :-)
