Whisper Game for "What Are You Doing"?
Requires a little bit of organisation beforehand, but gets all of the class involved.
First the preparation:
You need to make individual words that can make a "doing" make a sentence.
He is riding a bike
I am reading book
shopping swimming camping singing etc
These are laminated and have the sticky velcro stuff on the back.
I use the felt spinny board that are lying in the office, but use anything that the kids can stick the words to so as to make a sentence. These individual words are put into a box or tray.
Make pictures of the doing activity ie picture of riding a bike
The class is divided into three teams and placed in a line. Each team has their own tray of words. So you need to make three or however many sets of the words.
One person is shown a picture - riding a bike and I ask "what is he doing"?
They must then whisper "he is riding a bike" to the first pair on their team. These then whisper to the next pair and so on . . . I have them whisper to a pair, so if someone cannot speak any English or has limited English, then at least one of the pair can say the necessary sentence.
The last couple then whispers to a pair at the front of the class, who must make the sentence with the given words in a box or tray. The winner is the first to say the sentence with the correct written sentence on their small board. Three points for first, two for second and one for third. Overall winner is the one with most points
The kids are so competitive and they use all the target language. It is also good because in a normal game, they can get a little noisy, however the threat of having points taken away if they shout and they remain remarkably quiet!!!
