hey guys,

recently i tried to spice up the game time in my class. theres a similar game played in many camps/youth groups etc..as ice breakrs. i dont know the name but im sure you've played it or seen it played..its similar to fruit basket

the original game uses "if your wearing / or have you ever" for this game i changed it to "what are you doing"

How to:

1.Assign students a key vocab i.e:running,jumping..etc
2.Have them seat in a circle...with one student in a middle
3.The students in the circle ask what are you doing?
4.Student in the middle says I'm...running,jumping
5.If students key vocab is chosen by the student in the middle..then they run and find a different sit from there original.
6.Last person to find a seat is in the middle and again the students ask what ar eyou doing?

Needs space and obviously a lot of directions as some kids will not get the point..still my class was good and the kdis enjoyed!

used this powerpoint for period 2 of lesson 11

has the listen and repeat on two slides so the students can practice roleplay with other students
and after it has a 'hint' game where the students see four/five pictures and have to guess what they are doing by answering following the "i am..." sentence structure

this took up about ten minutes of the lesson,
hope people find it helpful!

For a motivation video, I used Mr. Bean goes swimming... The kids enjoyed this a lot! It relaxes the atmosphere of the class. I ask the students questions: where is mr. bean? what is he doing? when do you like to go swimming? Etc.

Good luck!

For second period, we played the drama game, "What Are You Doing?" In it, you have the students line up. The 1st student pantomimes an activity. The 2nd student asks, "What are you doing?" The 1st student must say they are doing a DIFFERENT action. The 2nd student then has to pantomime that action. The 3rd student then asks the 2nd student, "What are you doing?" and the cycle continues until every student has participated.

Example:
S1: (pretends to swim)
S2: What are you doing?
S1: I'm dancing.
S2: (dances)
S3: What are you doing?
S2: I'm brushing my teeth.
S3: (pretends to brush teeth)
etc.

We played in 2 teams, with the fastest team winning. My CT and I each monitored one team to make sure they were doing it correctly. The students and my CT really enjoyed it. Here's a ppt that helps explain the rules.

Here is a simple writing handout that I made last week (it seemed to work well in class). After the students had written down their answers, I then got one student to write down each answer on the blackboard.

Someone posted a link to a Roadrunner cartoon earlier. I made up a worksheet based on the sentences featured in the cartoon. Here's a link to the post, with said worksheets:

Here's a game board to practice "I'm ___-ing" phrases-have students write the corresponding sentence to each picture, as well as their own rules, and then let them play away!

Pyramid Game: Every students starts out as the bottom animal (doing corresponding actions). Each student must find another who is the same animal and take turns asking and answering the corresponding question/answer.  Then they will do rock-scissors-paper, and the winner moves up to become the next animal, and the loser either stays the same or goes down one (it's up to you!). Students must always find the same animal to ask/answer and play with, though they will keep changing animals and answers throughout the game.  Just keep the screen on while they're playing. The winner then has to play the teacher!

I'm attaching a powerpoint using present progressive.  It's pretty simple, but good to use for introducing the present progressive.

This is a multiple part reading/writing activity that I devised for this chapter. In the first part, every student gets a short passage to decode. The passage is instructions that tell them to ask Kamili Teacher or Kim Teacher for the next part. The next part is unscrambling. Those are also instructions that tell them to write 3 sentences about what they're favorite person is doing, then go see Kamili Teacher or Kim Teacher for further instructions. The activity took MUCH longer than I expected, so in my classes, we did only the decoding part. Students who finished quickly also did the unscrambling part. My students really enjoyed the activities. I named it The Quiet Game and told them there was ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING ALLOWED. I think that has been the only time that my class has been completely silent....

SO, just to be clear:
1. Decoding Key - the key to the decoding part
2. Quiet Game Final - the passage to be decoded WITH the decoding key all on one page. This just needs to be printed/copied
3. Quiet game-unscramble - this is the unscramble portion of the activity. Again, just needs to be printed/copied.
4. Quiet Game - this is the answer key for the ENTIRE game if you choose/have enough time to do the whole 3part activity. This includes an A/B option if you want to give some students version A and some students version B (I did that to discourage students who were not yet finished with the activity from mimicking students who were finished already)

Enjoy...

Here is a ppt with a matching game for chores.  It introduces the chores first, and then there is a matching game.

It includes:  cleaning my room, sweeping the floor, mopping the floor, making dinner, taking out the trash, washing dishes, doing laundry, vacuuming the floor, cleaning the bathroom, mowing the grass, washing the car, and raking leaves

1. Warm up
2. Vocabulary
3. Lucky Wheel game
4. Matching Game (students identify action in the pictures column and then choose from the words column and hope they match)

Another Boggle for story time!

Students get into groups of 3 - 5. They make a list of as many words from the story as they can make from the Boggle slide. Words must be from the actual story, and the words must be 3 letters or more. Words such as (the, and) do count. The group with the most words will get 2 points. Second place gets 1 point per slide.

An activity:

Charades is a great game when the students are very tired. It gets them active. Give each group a few cards with activities drawn on them. Make sure none of the other students see the cards. One student from each group should act out the activity and students in the group must state the activity. For ex: If a student receives a card with the activity "Reading". The students in the group must guess "You are reading" after the student acts out the activity.
