Here's a PPT for 10.1, it introduces all the Key Expressions: I am doing Taekwondo etc.
Also attached are some charade cards to play with in class.

A few things i have modified / made for this topic .... hope it helps....

NOTE:
In all my presentations / games for this unit, i have expanded  the target vocab a little, i think the book looks at just "I am ..... ing" and 'He/She is ..... ing' .. i am also teaching my classes 'they are .... ing'.

1) Grade 5 - Unit 11 - Grammar Introduction

modified from another user ... grammar corrections / new pictures and an (in my opinion clearer layout).
Good for an introduction to the unit's grammar structures.

2) What is happening- Game (Grade 5 - Unit 11)

A game made by me for this unit ..... the slide is blank at first .... hit the 'hint' button and a picture will flash up and dis-appear ..... the first kid to raise his / her hand and say the target sentence wins points for his / her team.

Once the kid has said the correct sentence ..... Press the 'show' button to show the picture and the key sentence (the sentence is initially covered ... click anywhere in the slide to show it)

One more click displays the points for that team (They are sometimes - points to keep it more interesting)

3) Bomb Game - Grade 5 - Unit 11 - modified game from another user, neatened up / new pictures and correction of some minor grammar issues.

4) What Are You Doing - TABOO! - a taboo game for this unit - made by me.
One child is at the front, in a place where they can not see the slide show ... the rest of their team have to elicit the target sentence without using the words in the yellow box.
if they get it correct ... click the happy face to show the points. otherwise just click to move to the next slide.

hope these help some people out,
feel free to modify or send me suggestions ...

thanks, enjoy.

Here is a video I used as a review for 2nd period.  We also played the Harry Potter game and the class went crazy! I think its been their favorite game so far.

I'm bit over Lemon Tree as I was here last year and thought I'd look around for some other choices...

You 80s Babies may recall: Tom's Diner by Suzanne Vega (give it a listen, you'll remember, I'm sure!)

Anyway, lots of present continuous.

I'm linking some videos and lyrics sites. I don't have time yet to put things together as for lyrics sheet/cloze excercise etc...but in due time, I will (unless someone else is on board w/ this song and has time prior to me ^^)

Any way:

Lyrics Vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfHCeKAem-0

Vide w/ decent action to help w/ what the lyrics are about:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avCeJnw9WbQ

Site with lyrics: http://www.metrolyrics.com/toms-diner-lyrics-suzanne-vega.html

Additonaly websites I've found that were helpful for tracking down songs for ELL teaching:

Peace.

Review Game: He's ___ and ___.

I have a pretty good review activity that went over really well with my students.  Instead of doing a simple charades game, I made it more challenging by having student volunteers do TWO actions at once, and having the class guess what they were doing.  It was really amusing watching the students run and dance at the same time.  :p  There are some pretty hilarious combinations you can make and the students love figuring it out.

"What's he doing?"

  • "He's jumping and flying."
  • "He's running and singing."
  • "He's kicking and cleaning."

I did the Harry Potter game - the inside version posted before with rock paper scissors. The kids really liked it, it was crazy. However it was recommended that 1/3 of students be Voldemort, and I found that you need more than that or a lot of kids will be bored. In our classes of about 24, we had 10 Voldemorts and it was perfect. I also suggest that you and your co-teacher (or at least one of you) be a Voldemort, they loved that!

A nice game to play with this is to pretend one student is an undercover cop and the other is a criminal. This practices the present continuous tense. The one student will say what the other is doing as he/she moves around the room.

Here's my PPT for this lesson. I cover the major vocab and a bit more. This is the one that I'll be using during my next open class so I really went the extra mile on this one.

An information gap worksheets to accompany the Real English video. It's really concise because it is intended to be an intro.

It's a really good present continuous activity. Simply, show the video clip to students and let them write down what Mr.bean is doing. My students loved it. Enjoy~:-)

Here are 2 worksheets:

Introduction - Listen and speak - fill in the gaps. (Can be used for role play afterwards)
Hidden message worksheet - find the words and then the secret message (I will use this for my worst class instead of a game.)
