Here is a game I found on BarryfunEnglish. I attached the pdf. I also attached the key expressions and a list of adjectives for then to make the sentences with. I glued it to the bottom of the page before I made copies so the students could refer to it.

This is a "Do the Mission" activity.  I split the class into 2 groups, Team A and Team B.  You get one volunteer from each team to come up and do a mission.  One mission is: "Whose lips are bigger?"  So you have some lipstick and you pick two of your more extroverted boys to do this one.

We had the kids volunteer, then we picked the mission.  Another is "Who can jump higher" so we had the 2 kids jump high and put a post-it note on the wall.  For the "Whose paper clip chain is longer" one we had  a couple magnets and some paper clips.  We used this for an open class and it went over really well.

Hey guys! My first contribution to this awesome website.

For chapter ten after the Chuseok holiday, I'm gonna be attempting the Daft Hands Video so I made an instructional worksheet. The lyrics in the center cover 60 seconds of the video (from :50 to 1:50) which is all I plan on working with. More than that seems too much for one sitting.

I'm probably gonna use this for Winter English Camp too  ;D

I am going to use the following for a sentence making game. Each team gets one set of words cut up and they have to make as many correct sentences as they can in that time.

My co-teacher somehow found Irving Berlin's "Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)" which goes along with the theme of the lesson.

It's a bit difficult to sing all of in parts but use a "Last Man Standing" activity for this one.

How do you do the Last Man Standing activity? Do you give the students certain words to stand/sit on or do they just listen for anything with -er?

I loved this idea - but don't know the best way to make worksheets w/ all my various co-teachers and their preferences so I did a little PPT action.

I think when showing each slide I would elicit the base words students may want to use: small, big, ugly, tasty, salty, strong, etc. And write them on the board.

I didn't think of the CD worksheet idea, but I'm grateful to whoever did! Uses the comparative words newer, older, and cheaper, so is probably best saved for period 4. Page one has the pictures of CDs with their release date and cost. Page two is a worksheet for students to fill out about the CDs.

I tried this comparatives worksheet, and all I got were blank stares from my sixth graders. I even went through the worksheet with them, and still nothing. I went as far as, "These are all answers, write one down," and they still just sit there. I want to say that they just don't want to learn English, aside from like, two people in the class. It's really unfortunate.

I came across a "Who is taller" quiz if any of you remember doing those.

I thought it would be a great warm up to the class so I made a ppt...too bad my class just finished the lesson without getting a chance to try it.

I improved my ppt a little, and changed some wording.

Here is a worksheet I made explaining comparatives/superlatives with the Korean explanations. There are plenty of examples for them to do for ether homework, as a game, or together as a class.

Here's a sentence game I made for I'm stronger than you...

I put the students into 6 groups, then I had them do a relay race to a poster with comparative situations in a picture format.

The students had to look at the pictures by number and then they run back to their group and give them the correct comparative sentence to write down, e.g, 'The tiger is stronger than the cat.'

The next person could go look at the next picture, as soon as the previous person had finished saying their sentence.

It went well for my class and it got them thinking and working together which was great!  Hope it works for your class

You can also separate the pictures and stick them on different parts of the room so that each person sees only one picture...I tried it today and it worked well too...

Here is a logic puzzle I made for my students. The teacher reads out the sentences and the students fill in the missing blanks then they have to work out which alien is which. It is good for a 10 minute activity and actually requires the students to think a bit.

I'll be using the Eigomon game from MES-English for this lesson.  There are three sets of stat cards for a variety of generally cool-looking characters.  Students rock-paper-scissors to decide who will choose the stat they're to compare (height, IQ, or age, or whatever), compare, and then the loser says "you're ____er than me."  You can download the PDF card files from home and bring them to school, if MES-English is blocked for you.  I'll report back on how the game goes.  Hopefully well, after all the time I've spent cutting out cards!

I adapted this idea from an idea I saw in Dave's esl cafe, so I cannot take full credit.  In period four, I like the sixth graders to use the key expressions in a less structured, more independent way.  For "I'm stronger than you," I made cards that say the names of different characters on them, like a ninja, a tiger, a battleship, a chicken, Harry Potter, and myself.  I drew two cards at random and asked the class who would win in a fight.  Each team had to decide who would win, and tell me why using at least one comparative expression in their explanations.  Most teams just said something like "a ninja is faster than a chicken," but a few teams gave more detailed and creative answers.  Everybody paid attention and seemed to enjoy, which is significant in a sixth grade class

Eigomon went over FANTASTICALLY well.  The kids in two classes got a little confused about the "return the cards to the loser after you win" part, leaving me with a few sitting on the sidelines watching until I resolved the mix-up, but overall it was a successful 20-minute game.

I played the basic form of Eigomon (rock/paper/scissors, winner picks the stat, fighter with the higher stat says the English sentence and claims both cards), but with a couple of minor changes.  First, if the higher-stat winner does not say the "I'm ___er than you" sentence correctly, they cannot claim the other player's card.  (We only used the first five stats. The remaining 3 don't use the '~er than" grammar.)  Second, I had them play in pairs rather than wander about the classroom freestyle.  After wrapping up a game or two with their partner, they could then look for someone else to play against.

To help the kids connect the words on the cards to the lesson vocabulary, I drew a little table on the board matching the statistic name (noun) to the adjective in one color of chalk, and added "er than" in a second color.  I illustrated with flash cards.  Most are from ESLflashcards.com (adjectives set A), but I also made a few of my own.  I've attached them in case you want to add smart/dumb to your illustrative arsenal.

Inspired - I made this PPT because I don't have a printer at my current school location.

Good way to practice the terms, probably best used in 1st or 2nd period. All the kids seemed to enjoy it. Hope it helps :)

-good way to kill time too ;)
