The trading card game idea is one of the best I've come across yet. It really forces the students to use the language and they were engaged the whole time.

I wanted to keep their interest so I made a card game with all sorts of famous Koreans and cartoon characters. Just print out the Word documents and paste to construction paper, then cut out.  Here's my directions:

Superhero Card Game! Teacher creates several “superhero” cards with varying abilities (strength, age, speed, height). Students battle each other with cards. Students battle by laying one card on the table face down. Then they play rock-paper-scissors and the winner chooses the question (Which (one) is older?  Which (one) is taller? Which (one) is smarter? Which (one) is faster?). Let the students battle each other and before the game gets stale sit them down and count their cards.

Here's some more of the sheets and an example of one of the cards. I just pasted the cards onto the word docs used above

P.S. Most of the stats are factually correct, except the ones I could not find...

This is a game with silly pictures.

Have students guess which is _____er than the other.Obviously, the pictures make the answer unpredictable so its just for fun and practice. They get points for guessing right.

Insert a picture of yourself and someone significantly older/younger than you on slide 17

WHO IS? PPT.

1. The first slide plays "Stronger" by Kayne West, have the class guess what key words they hear.
2. Have the students look at the pictures and compare...who is stronger, faster...etc.

I started the class with a warmer, where the kids have to try and spell the longest word. Then some students read the story "The Turtle and the Rabbit". We studied the rules about comparing things (adding -er and -est) in the first lesson and adding more and most in the second lesson. They had to do a writing activity comparing 2 pictures.

Here's a Battleships/Treasure Island activity I made for this lesson.  (Changed the name from Battleships to Treasure Island after the Cheonan sinking!)  Sorry the treasure is on a seperate page, I'm a computer dullard and couldn't figure out how to put it next to the grids.

Actually, we use this activity with a lot of lessons, the kids love it (and once you've spent 10 minutes explaining it the 1st time they get it easily the next time) and spend the whole game repeating the target language over and over again!!!

Hope it's understandable!

First worksheet: Gap fill with "anything you can do I can do better" lyrics, including word bank. First I show students a video of the song. They really like: DBSK -  Jaechun Anything you can do I can do better. Second page I used for a warm-up. I show students the daft hands video and they circle the words they hear. Makes me feel less guilty about only showing the video because, while it's fun, it's not super educational...

This is a PPT for speaking practice of comparatives. After the PPT I had printed off the pictures in it and laminated them. I sent one student outside and gave the laminated card to another student to hide under his/her book. Then the other student would come back inside the classroom and the students would shout a comparative to indicate how close they were to the person with the card. For example - when using the Optimus Prime picture the students would shout 'Stronger' when the student was close and 'Weaker' when they were going the wrong way. My students loved this!

Here's a ppt I changed so that it's more competitive. You can have the students vote on which one will be the winner (slowest, oldest, strongest, etc.) I took my pictures out, so you can put your own in for the oldest slide. Hope it helps.

Well, here it is!  The last Kimchi Bandit!  yesssssss.  I've attached a worksheet (with answers) as well.  The language in this one is preeetty advanced so, sorry about that!  Hope you enjoy.

If you need to download the video, there's a link under "about this video" so you can watch it offline too.

And I attached the 5th grade worksheet too, just in case you teach both.

I am a bit worried that my grade sixers wouldn't get past the middle finger part of the daft hand video. I will be using this video instead.
