Occupations
« on: April 22, 2011, 05:29:41 PM »
First, I printed out and laminated a picture with the name of each occupation and taped them to the white board.  I then wrote down a list of daily activities performed by each of these occupations on the white board.  (The daily activities that accompany each occupation are listed on the worksheet attached).  I then pointed to a picture and asked the students to pick which daily activity from the list that each job performs.  When they guess correctly, write the daily activity under the corresponding picture.

Then, pass out the worksheet and have the students match the name of each occupation with the correct daily activity.  (They just learned this on the white board).

Then, practice the dialogue with your co-teacher and have the students repeat, then practice the dialogue with a partner for a few minutes.  I walked around the room and made each student speak the dialogue in front of me.  Alternately, you could choose pairs from the class to stand up and speak the dialogue in front of the class.

If time remains, play the hidden picture game.  The group that is the first to guess the job correctly gets a point.

i use scripts with a gap fill and get them to practice. they usually enjoy this activity. i get them to come up to the front and act it out (this takes some persuasion). thanks for the tips.

Here are two occupation ppts. The pictures are a bit out of date in one, so they probably need to be changed.

Try out this video.  It's really funny and has a bunch of jobs in it.
